Your letter of the 3rd. inst. with reference to the sewage treatment
of the Ettrick Sanitary District was duly received. I could not answer the
same until the matter had been taken up with the City Council. This was
done last night and the following reply to your letter was authorized.
It is our opinion that the only comprehensive way to negotiate in this
matter would be based upon a definite amount for the capital outlay and a
definite amount for the sewage treatment, and to that end, we would be
willing to enter into a contract similar to that which we now have with the
Virginia State College which would provide in part the following figures:
(1) Your pro-rata part of capital ou.lay for the original
construction of the trunk line from Ettrick to sewage
disposal plant and the disposal plant itself including one
main pumping station but excluding your cost of connection
to our line at the nearest point in Ettrick and your sewage
meter, 30,000.00
(2) Your cost of treatment would be the same as now paid
by the Virginia State College which is 5.70 per thousand
gallon of sewage metered through your meter.
(3) Any damarres caused by floods, Acts of God or causes
beyond the City's control can be pro -rated between City,
State College and Sanitary District according to sewage
metered.
(4) If a reement reached, the same to include Ettrick Sanitary
District as it now exists only.
Trusting that the above information will enable you to reach a decision
within 60 days from the date hereof.
Very truly yours,
Fred. R. Shepherd, Mayor

Dear Mr. Hague:
I am enclosing in this letter a copy of the Chesterfield Welfare
budget for the year 1955-56. You will note that we are asking
the county to appropriate $38,364.10 as their share. This is an
increase of only $181.79 over last year's budget.
I would appreciate your presenting this budget to the Board of
Supervisors at their meeting tomorrow and letting me know as
soon as possible that it was approved, as I am suppose to pre-
sent this information to the State the month of February.
If you or any member of your Board has any question in regards

Gentlemen:
Regarding our bid on the dump truck and our conversation
of this morning, I do wish to point out that we stated on our bid
that it included not only changing the dump body, but it included
a new Power Take -Off and related parts, which are necessary to work
the dump body on the new chassis. This Power Take -Off and necessary
oil would run the cost between $60.00 and $70.00.
I appreciate the opportunity of quoting you and hope that
we will hear from you on some more business again soon.
Sincerely you s,
