SESSION <br /> <br /> <br />COUNTY ADMINSTRATOR’S COMMENTS <br /> <br />Mr. Jim Graham, Deputy Chief, and Ms. Emily Ashley, newly appointed Emergency <br />Management Coordinator of the Department of Fire and EMS, provided an update on the <br />preparation for Hurricane Irene. <br /> <br />Ms. Julia Williams, President of the Chesterfield County Fair Association, updated the Board on <br />this year’s fair. <br /> <br />Mr. Stegmaier announced good news in the area of economic development – Cuore, a <br />telemarketing firm company that took over the old JC Penney call center will be adding 400 jobs; <br />Bryant & Stratton College held a ribbon cutting on August 18th for their campus expansion, <br />which will bring expanded employment and educational opportunities for county residents; and <br />Wells Fargo held a ribbon cutting at their Amberdale Drive location earlier this month. <br /> <br />Mr. Stegmaier was pleased to report that a reservoir survey performed in June 2011 showed <br />hydrilla to be absent in 93% of the Swift Creek Reservoir, with a trace amount detected in other <br />parts of the lake, an indicator that the sterile grass carp have been extremely effective in <br />significantly reducing hydrilla. <br /> <br />Mr. Stegmaier announced that a team from Police, the Sheriff’s Office and the Department of <br />thth <br />Fire and EMS are currently planning a “September 11 Memorial Service” on September 9 at <br />th <br />11:00 a.m. to commemorate the 10 Anniversary of the September 11, 2001 disasters at the <br />World Trade Center, The Nations Pentagon and Shanksville, PA. <br /> <br />Mr. Stegmaier reported that the Chesterfield County Department of Parks and Recreation will <br />th <br />present a free concert by the Richmond Symphony on Sunday, September 11, at 5:00 p.m., at <br />th <br />the Henricus Historical Park to commemorate the 10 anniversary of the 9/11 disaster. A rain <br />th <br />date is scheduled for September 12, at 6:00 p.m. <br /> <br />Mr. Stegmaier announced that Chesterfield County will be hosting a group from the Gravesham <br />th <br />Town Twinning Association for Henricus’ 400 anniversary commemoration, which will be held <br />th <br />on September 17-18. <br /> <br />Mr. John Lugbill from Sports Backers provided an update on sports tourism in the county. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> 1 <br /> <br />
