Eellam, Hesident En~ineem, ~[~inia Dep~rtment of Highways, stated to the Board that Salem Road at Merchie's Mill could be improved for a distance of .2 of a mile fo~ the p~ice of $750.00. Upon consideration whereof and on motion of Mr. BFittoo, seconded by ~F. Goyne, it is resolved ~hat; said road be improved, charging same to the 3~ Road Fund of the County. I{ritton, seconded by Dr. Gill, it is reso]ved that the Virginia Department of Highways be ~equested to investigate a request fova "Stop" or "Yield" si~n at the intersection of Do~set and Windsor roads, and at the intersection of Tennyson and Whitehead Avenues; the feasibility of ~uttinC a 35-MPN Speed Limit sign on Warwick Road, between Bt. 60 and Rt. 360; to investigate the ~equest of a "Dead End" sign on Jack-;on Street in Ett~ick and investigate the feasibility of signs Jackson and Cou~t Streets fcc paFkin~ o~ one side o~ly. It was. ~enerally a~reed that this matter would be deferred until a later data. Tl~is day a letter was read si~ned by Mr. M. F. Adams, President of the Gentralia ~ardens Civic Association, which letter repudiated a letter si~ned by Mr, E. V. Jackson, Jr., dated December 14, lg~ and presented to the ~oard of Supervisors on December 1~, 19~4 in opposition to the proposed automobile tax for the Gounty of Ghesterfield, which letter was ordered received and filed with the Board~s papers. This day Mr. E. J. German, ~ame Warden, presented the ~ame claims of the County. Upon consideration whereof and on motion of Mr. ~oyne, seconded by Dr. Gill, it is resolved that said claims be paid as presented. This day the Chesterfield Civic Association presented a request in writin~ for office space at the Gourthouse for the colored County A~ent and Home Demonstration A~ent. Upon consideration whereof, and on motion of Mr, Goyne, seconded by Mr. B~itton, it is resolved that this request be referred to the Buildings and ~rounds Committee. This day ~r. Amos Lee Webster requested additional street light on Dupuy Road in front of the area store, immediately west of Laurel graneh ~oad, and it was ~enerally a~reed that this request would be referred to the Light Committee. This day the annual report of the Ric~.ond-Petersbur~ Turnpike Authority was presented to the Board and same was ordered received and filed with the Roard~s papers, This day tile Gounty Welfare budget was presented to the Board and it was generally a~reed that said budget would be deferred to a latermeetin~. This da~ a request for a building permit on Lot 48 in ~ritish Camp Farms, which lot is 50 feet in wid%h,.facing Windsor Road was presented to the ~oard, and it was pointed out that said lot was under one ownership in 1939. Upon consideration whereof and on motion of MA-. Britton, seconded by Dr. Gill, it is resolved that t~e Building Inspector be and he hereby is authorizmd to grant a building permit to ~r. Grubbs on said lot. This day the Executive Secretary requested some rulin~ from the Board on the auxiliary pumper now house~ at the Ettriek Fire Department house, and reported further that several inquiries had been received as to the proposed purchase of this equipment. On motion of Dr. Gill, seconded by Mr. Britton, it i~ resolved that the Executive Secretary be and he hereby is directed to find out as much as possible of the history of this pumper. This day a letter si~ned by Mr. Francis ~. $1oane, thankin~ the Board of Supervisors for their cooperation in the Fire D~partments in the Gounty and expressing appreciation for the fact that his home had beem partially saved by their efforts, which letter was ordered received and f~led. This day a letter was presented, si~ned by Mrs. Donna E. Boder, Gorrespondin~ gecretary for Thomas Dale P.T.A., Which letter sponsored the re-openin~ of Camp Baker for under-privileged children in the County. ft was generally a~reed that this letter would be filed and a copy sent to the Gommittee studying this pro~ect. This day the Executive ~ecretary stated that on]y one bid had been ~eceived for the proposed power wa~on for the Clover Hill Fire Department. On motion of Mr. Goyne, meeonded by Mr. Rritton, it is resolved that this bid be re~ected and additional [)ids be secured. This day the Executive Secretary presented a letter from Mr. W. T. Mann, which letter requested the status of a proper sludge ordinance. Upon consideration whereof and on motion of Dr. Gill, seconded by is resolved that this ~oard again request the Health Department to submit a proposed ordinance to cover the disposition of sludge in the County of Chesterfield. This day a letter si~ned by Mr. Fred Thompson, Supt. of Schools of Chester- field Gounty, was presented to the Board, which letter stated that the School Board had approved the floor plans for the proposed new School offices, and requested that plans and specifications be developed as soon as possible. Upon consideration wh~reof, and on motion of Mr. C~yne, seconded by Dr. Gill, it is resolved that said letter be received and filed with the ~oa~d~s papers. On motion of Dr. ~ill, seconded by ~r. [~ritton, it is resolved that the sewerage report from Hayes, Seay, Mattern and Mattern on the Ettrick Sanitary District, be received and discussed mt tile next meeting of the This day a delegation from the Et]rick Volunteer Fire Department appeared before the t%oard again requesting an American La-France fire engine on a Ford F-?50 chassis. Mr. Claude H. In~.~ram, a representative from the /~merican La-France CoFpo~ation ~ecommended an F-750 chassis but stated that an F-600 chassis cot~ld be used. ~r. Goyne stated %ha% the Board had denied this heavie~ chassis to [he Enon Fire DepaFtmen% and should deny this Fequest.
