VIRGINIA: <br /> <br />At an adjourned meeting of the <br />~$oard of Supervisors of Chesterfield <br />County, held at the Courthouse on <br />January 17, 1956, at 8:00 p.m. <br /> <br />Present: <br /> <br />~lr. Irvin ~. Homer, Chairman <br />Mr. M. T. Goyne <br />Dr. Robt. 0. Gill <br />~r. 5~arshall F. Driskill <br />Mr. R. J. Britton <br />Mr. Stanley R. Hague, Jr. <br /> <br />This day Sheriff, 0. B. Gates, T~ial Justice JudGe, John W. Snead, Clerk of <br />Circuit Court, Lewis Vaden, Chief of Police C. W. Smith,and Commonwealth's <br />Attorney, Ernest P. Gates, met with the l{oard of Supervisors to discuss tho <br />proposed new office building for the County. After considerable deliberation, <br />and on motion of ~r. ~oyne, seconded by Mr. }Sritton, it is resolved that this <br />t.{oard approve the location of the proposed building on the ~ite which would <br />incorporate the 3/4 of an acre of land presently belonging to Mrs. John CoGbill. <br /> <br />Upon further consideration, and on motion of Mr. Driskill, seco%dod by Mr. Goyne, <br />it is resolved that this Board accept the offer of Mrs. CoGbill of $5000.00 for i <br />the D/4 of an acre in the rear of her property at Chesterfield Courthouse, which <br />offer was given to the County in a letter dated September ~6, 1955. <br /> <br />It was generally agreed that the switchboard would be located in the present <br />Sheriff's Office, a witness room would be located in the present Commonwealth's <br />Attorney's office, and tho Commonwealth's Attorney's office would be located in <br />the present Trial Justice's Office in the Court room. <br /> <br />It was genernlly agreed that the archit~.ctural firm of E. Tucker Carlton would <br />pr~paFe further preliminary plans for this Building. <br /> <br />~This day a contract was presented to the Board of Supervisors by Mr. Elbert <br />.%~umma, .baying been requested by a previous rose]ut%on of the Board, which con- <br />tract calls fo~' the dde~ing of the water ~ystem in the Grove Place Subdivision <br />bo the County of Chesterfield. Upon consideration whereof, and on motion of <br /> Mm. Goyne, seconded by ~r. Britton, it is resolved that said contract be approved <br /> by the h%oard of Supervisors and the Chairman and Clerk are hereby authorized to <br /> sign said contract. <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Goyne, seconded by Dr. Gill, it is resolved that the Exec[~tive <br /> Secretary be and he hereby is directed to inform, in writing, the First Mortgage~ <br /> Corporation of this contract between the County of Chesterfield and ~r. ~umma <br /> relative to the water system in the Grove Place Subdivision and cite the fact <br /> that the County has taken over this system as per contract agreed upon and to <br />~ send a copy of said contract to the First Mortgage Corporation. <br /> <br />This day Mr. J. T. Moore came before the Roard requesting the Board to accept thee <br />water system in the Beulah Village Subdivision, citing the fact that under the <br />County's master Plan an H" water line would be installed on Rt. ?10, which road <br />was contiguous to this subdivision. <br /> <br />It wasgenera]ly agreed that if the County were to take over said water system <br />knowing that the supply mir. hr be inadequate it would then be responsible for <br />su.~plying an adequate amount of water. <br /> <br />It was generally agreed that the County could make no commitments at this time <br />concernin~ this water system, that perhaps after future development which might <br />include the s~le of the bonds and the completion of work plans fo~ this water <br />line, the County might be ~n a position to discuss the matter further. <br /> <br />This day it was cited that a financial consultant should be obtained to aid the <br />County in sel!in~ its bonds, and upon consideration whereof and on motion of ~r. <br />~oyne, seconded by ~r. ;%ritton, it is resolved that the Executive Secretary be <br />and he hereby is authorized to seek proposals from various bonding firms relative <br />to their methods of procedure and costs involved. <br /> <br />This day Mr. ~earge Shropshire, County Engineer, advised the Board that certain <br />watgr lines in Southampton ~cres, ~idlotbian District, were to be laid under an <br />existing contract which had not been approved by the Board of Supervisors, which <br />contract had been approved before the new procedure involving the Board's approval <br />of each contract was adopted. <br /> <br />This day again the matter of holidays came before the Board and a proposal was <br />presented by the Committee authorized to study the question, and the fact was <br />cited that if the holiday schedule were to be changed it ~hould be started as <br />soon after the new year as possible. Upon consideration whereof and on motion <br />of ~. Driskill, seconded by Dr. ~ill, the following holidays are adopted for <br /> <br /> <br />
