This day, Mr.E.S.ti. Greene, Supt. of Schools, read a resolution from the County
School Boar~., which he stated was prompted by a request from residents of the
Bellewood area for the construction of a modern enlarged school building to
supplement or take the place of the present Bellewood School.
,,herein, they instructed the Superintendent to contact the State Board of Educatio]
ccncernir~ the possibility and advisability of constructing the same, and st~:ted
that the ',~ar Production Board had been contacted concerning priorities for such a
building, and requeste~ a st~tement from the Bos;rd of Supe:visor~-' as to whether
sufficient funds would be allocated if az~l when it was dotermined by the School
Board that such an improvement was necessary. Upor~ consideration ;',her~.~of, and
on motion of H. T. Ooyne , it is resolved that a Committee from the Board of
Supervisors be appointed to work with the School Board in making a survey of the
conditions in the Bellwood area and make further recommendations to theSchool
Bo~rd and Board of SupezVisors. This r~otion died for the want of a second.
however, the Superintendent of Schools invited I~ir. Goyne to work with him and a
Committee from the Ochool Board on a survey of this situation.
This day ~r. Pennell, of ~dkins and hennell, came before the Boara offering their
services to conduct the audit of records of Chesterfield County for the fiscal
year ending June Z0, 1944, but this contract had already been awarded to the A. M.
Toler Company.
_~,.gain the matte~' of purchasing the water sy~tem at Chester, owned by ~'r.0.K.
Marquis, was brought before the Board and a Committee heretofore appointed,
stated that they ~¥ould lik~ tc have the matter discussed by thewhole Board.
Upon consideration whereof, and on motion of R. T. Goyne, it is resolved that the
Board purchase the water system in Chester now owned by Mr.O.K.5{arquis, at a price
of ~12,000.00, which motion w~s not carried.
This day the after, rich of the Board was called to the fact that the Fifth ~,ar Loan
Drive was now on and suggested that such purchases of War Bonds by the Treasurer
be authorized. Upon consideration '~-.~her.~of, and on motion of W. ~. Morner, it
is resolved that the Treasurer be and he hereby is requested to purchase $10,000.0
worth cf ;L~r Bonds from theCeneral Fund of Chesterfield County.
