from the General ~hnd of the otate to "Instruction - Salaries of Principals"-

This day again the matter of a water system at and near the New Broad Rock School
marne before this Board, and
',hereas, at a meeting- of this Board held on the lath day of June, 1945, the
Executive Secretary was authorized to inquire into the quantities and quality
of tl:e water in the ~,ell at the new Broad Rock ~chool, and
',hereas, the Executive oecre~ary h~-s reported that the capacity of s~id well is
60-gallons per minute and that th~~ quality of the w~ter is satisfactory, and
,,hereas, it is the desire of this Bo~rd to avail itself of the use of said well
for the purpose mentioned, and the use cf the water by the School without
cost to the School Board.
Eow, Therefore, Upon consider,~tion, it is on motion of h.T.Goyne, resolved,
that the County ~chool Board of Chesterfield Oounty, Virginia, ~e ~nd it hereby
is respectfully req',!ueste~ to grant to this Boar~ the right to use the -~,ell ~t
the new Bros. u Rook School for the purpose of establishin~ a w~ter system at and
n~t.r the said new Broad Rock Sc?.o~l,and.' the furnishing of water to said school a'
no cost to the ~chool Board, and further that permission be granted to this
Board to install all necessary pumps, tanks, equipment and pipe lines.
This day the '"xecutive ~cret~ry rea~ a letter from the ~lantation Pipe Line
Company st~:tin~ ths~t the Oompany ha~d purchased 1,~50.00 z'orth of ~;ar Bonds in the
oeventh ,,ar Loan Drive, and that in accordance v,'ith their policy these bonds
had been allocated to the counties and cities in ~,hich their pumping stations,
delivery points and division offices were located, and theft $.lS,00G.00 had been
alloc~ted to Chesterfield County under this policy.
Upon consider tion whereof, and on motion of J.G. Hening, the ~;xecutive Secretary
be and he hereby is directed to write to the Plant:~tion Pipe Line Company thanking
them for their contribution to Chesterfield's purchase of ,,ar Bonds.
This day the Executive Secr~t~ry read a letter from Hon. Lloyd C. Bird, acknowled~i
a resolution from the Board of Supervisors of June 12, relative to meeting ~ith
the Virginia Conservation Commission, and the letter is received and filed.

members of the Board of Supervisors and such other guests theft the Board would
care to join in this discussion,

entire Boaru be requesteu to attend the r~eeting in the office of the Conservation
~ommission on July 17th, 1945.
This day a letter was re~ from the ~tate Forester, ~,~r.Ceo. ,,.Dean, r~lativo to
the rates ofpay for forest fire fighters and the expense of ~ Forest Fire Prevention,
Progr~m in Chesterfield Ccunty, an~ the letter' is received and filed.

to the Bo-',.--~rd, requesting the, t this road be put in condition for travel. Upon
consideration v,'hereof, ~r~d on motion of ,,.~.horner, it is resolved that the Otate
Dep~rtment of ~ii~'hw~ys be arid it hereby is requested to improve an extension of
Rt.?l? for a distance of ~pproximately .2 of a mile, ch~:~rging same to the 3ct.
road levy.

the City of Richmond ;,,ere dumping garbage to be fed to hogs near her residence,
and had created ~ very disagreeable condition ~nd requested that some action be
taken to provide relief from this situ-~,tion. Upon consider~tion whereof, ~nd

a Committee to investig~te the matter and take such action as deemed possible

improvement of a road near Lakeview. UpSn consider~tion wher,~of, and on motion

is requested to communicate with 5~r.Perdue and inform him that this matter ha~
already been placed in the hands of the High~ay Oepartment for action.
This day the ~xecutive ~ecretary road a letter from ~[r. Chas. H. Eanes, relative to
a request for an increase from 5 to ?,;cts. for reading meters in the Ettrick
oanitury District. Upon consider':~tion whereof, and on motion of H.T.Goyne,
it is resolved theft this matter be referred to l~r.P.','i.Covington, Supervisor from
th~:t District, for investigation.
This day a letter w~,s read from ~.r. Thom,~s ~,.~er~uson, Jr., Chairman of the Roads
and Streets Committee of the Ben ,,ir Citizens' Ass~oci~:tion, r~lative to the
condition of certain roads and streets in Ben ~ir, ~nd the letter is received and
referred to the St~,te Deps~rtment of Highways.
This day a letter was ream from the Sydnor Pump & %iell Company relative to ~.~ainten
of ~ ter systems in Chesterfield County, ~,nd the letter is received and filed.
This day the Executive Oecretary read to the ]?card a co~nunication from ~.',r. 0.K.
5:arquts, owner of the w;~,ter system at Chester, containing proposals for the ~le
that system to the Board of Supervisors. Upon consideration whereof, and on
motion of ti.T.Goyne, it is resolved theft the letter be received :=nm filed and
that the matter be continued until s.uch time as a survey can be made of the
property and other questionable features cf operation be strai~'htened out.
This d~y the ~.xecutive Oecretary presented to the Board the matter of a he~,ting
system in the ~gricultur~l Building and was irmtructed to s~ke further investig~t
of the same.
This day the mxecutive oecretary called the Board's attention to the fact thief
Mr.G.lf,.Johnson, of t~e Police Dep~rt~.,ent, hs~ving been incapacitated for more than

H.T.Goyne, it is resolved that the hxecutive oecretary be and he hereby is
requested to communic,~.te with Z~r. Johnson concernir4~ this m~tter, requesting him
to submit a report of his physicul condition and sho~ cause why he should not
either return to work or be transferred to the Police Benevolent .~ssoci~tion for
any future compensation.
This day the ~xecutive ~ecret~ry brou6ht to the ~oard's attention the request
for bus service over koute ~10, Upon consideration ~hereof, and on ~otion of
H. T. Coyne, it is resolved that the m~ecutive ~ecret:~ry be and he hereby is
requeste~ to communicate with transportation companies in an effort to have bus
service extende~ over Route ~10 by Chesterfield Oourthouse.
~zhis d~y ~'.H.T.Coyne, reported that there w~s a situation on Rt. 719 which caused
water to d~mage the property of ~[r. H.O.Wade. Upon consideration ~hereof, and
on motion of H.T.Goyne, it is resolved that the Department of Highways be and it
hereby is requeste~ to correct this condition by better drainage on Rt. ?19.
This a~y Lir. H.T.Ooyne stated that there ~zas a matter of the improvement of a
ro'~d west of the ~eabo~rd ~irline Railroad-in the To~n of Chester, northeasterly
alon~ that Railroad for ~ ~stance of approximately 1/ mile. Upon
consideration ~hereof, and on motion of H.T.Goyne, this ~,:atter is referred to
the Ro~ Committee, '¢~ith a request that it ~ke a report of its findings at
the next meeting of the Boarm.
