L.Chalkley <br /> <br />The Special Committee appointed to confer with the government officials of the <br />Richmond General Depot concerning roads that the government requested permission <br />to close, made the following report: That the government requested permission <br />to close Rt. 60g, from a point where their line intersects the right of way of <br />tt6g0, westwardly tu a distanoe of approximate ly .2 of a mile. then northwardly <br />a distance approocimately .5 of a mile across Rt. 1602, oontinuing northwardly. <br />a di stance of .35 of a mile. crossin, g Rt. 631 and then northwardly a distance of! <br />approximatelY .1 of a mile to the intersection of the first street in the <br />Subdivision "Sherbourne Heifhts". Rt. 1602. from a point near the Junction <br />of 1602 and 1606, westwardly a distance of approximately .37 of a mile to the <br />Atlantic Coast Line RR. Rt. 641 from the Atlantic Coast Line RR. inoluding <br />the overhead bridge, easterly to a point at the intersection of the first <br />proposed avenue in Sherbourne Heie:hts, a di stance of approximately .35 miles. <br />The Committee further reported that where outlet roads were olosed the <br />government felt obligated to supply adequate replacements and after a careful <br />survey at this point the representatives of the government of the Richmond <br />General Depot had agreed to pay for the construction of a road from Drewry's <br />Bluff Station northwardly to Rt. 638 81' Stop 17 Road. The improvement of <br />Rt.640. southwardly to its intersection of Rt. 637 and certain improvements <br />on Rt. 611. between Rt. 637 and 145. at Stop 26. Since it is impossible for <br />the Board of Supervisors to close roads without the application from some person <br />or persons to have such roads closed, no action could be taken by theBoard on <br />this matter. <br /> <br />1,1 4 i <br />.he matter of fire f ghting equipment was brought to the attention of the Board <br />by Mr.TI.A.Horner. who suggested that a survey of the needs of the County be <br />made, and some action be takenas soon as possihle to improve the present <br />situation. Upon consideration whereof and on motion of VI.A.Horner, it is <br />resolved that this matter be referred to a Committee previously appointed and <br />urged that this Committee oomplete the survey and get prices on suitable <br />equipment as soon as possible. <br /> <br />The Executi ve Secretary reported that certain i tern s in the budget did not have <br />sufficient funds to meet the needs. and upon consideration whereof and on motion <br />of W. A. Horner. it is resolved that the following amounts be appropriated from <br />the unappropriated surplus of the General Fund to the Fundsas stated~ <br /> <br />Gene ral ~'und - Repairs and Replacements - 18-215 ;200.00 <br />" " - Supplies, Chec ks , OrdiB <br /> nanc es - l8..31g l3g.38 <br />" " - Rights of Way 18...602 150.00 <br />" " - Fue 1 14-311 150.00 <br /> <br />The Executive Secretary reported there appeared to be an excessive amount of <br />oil being used for heating purposes at Camp Baker. Upon consideration <br />whereof and on motion of H. A.Horner. it is re solved that the Executive <br />Secretary, be, and he hereby .is instructed to secure information on the <br />installation of a clock that rrdeht aid in deoreasing the u:"e of oil, and if <br />found practical ,to have the clock installed at once. <br /> <br />The attention of the Board was called by Mr.J.G.Hening , to the matter of <br />$90,000.00 which had been paid to the County of Chesterfield for certain <br />properties taken in by annexation and suggested that the County of Chesterfield <br />was losing approximately $10.00 per day by not investing this amount. <br />Upon consideration whereof and on motion of W.A.Horner, it is resolved th<it a <br />Committee of four be appointed to make a study of the sitoo t ion and report <br />back to this Board at an adjourned meeting of the Board on Wednesday. February <br />18,1942. at 8:00 o'clock p.m.. Whereupon the Chairman appointed J.G.Hening <br />T.D.\latkins.
