ShE stated that she f~lt the same consideration should be given to residential development as is given to commercial and %h~t a higher tax rate will not pr~ven~ industry f~om locating in the County. She Stated tha~ major industry wants good, stable areas in which to locate their executives. Leo Myers stated tha~ he felt it was i~portant for the County ~o maintain adequate salaries for its e~plsyees as long as it ~ue financially feasible, He s~ated thmt low salaries will cause low morale ~hich will in turn cause additional problems. He s~eted that peopie-wan~ good sound g~vernmen~ ~nd he did not Want ~o see Chesterfield begin having problems as some of the n~ighbcrln$ ~urisdictions are experiencing. Mrs. Glenda Kierson. Co-President of lhe Euon P_T,A., stated that the Executive Commxttee supported ~he proposed budget without any cuts. She stated 130 parents responded to their questionnaire in support of the budget and rsad statements teachers, the quality education, etc. She stated that a ~roup had met at Bermuda Square and had received aa additional 465 signatures in suppomt of the proposed b~dget. proposed school b~et, ~he ~tated she also was ~resident of i~e pNeposed budget as well. W. Gordon Elementary School stated that a position statement was distributed to parents and ~7; ~ere received supporting the proposed budget, wi~h 7 affains~ and 2 noncom~ittals. She stated the bond issue failed but there were no increases listed for teachers' salaries. Mrs. NanCy gpr~gg, President of the Chesterfield Assoeiatioa~ staged that everyone should underst[nd the plight of the teachers, Sh~ s~a~ed ~ha~ ~eashere are havinc ~rs not adequately adjusted, that the co~t of li¥in~ has !15% while the teachers only received a 5% increase over last year, etc. She ~tated that the teachers' hard Work is viewed only as statistics, that the County pays lower per pupil than the surroundin~ areas and that thi~ is one of the and tbs Board of Supervisors take all the credit for the outstanding gtuden~ test scores that are received, while the teachers receive only s~lles ~d "thank yOU'd", which de net pay bills. She statod the only option of the teachers is l~ Work to the contract without reducing the materi~l ia the curriculum, she stated this will mean no more field trips after sahool~ extra supplemental material, less tests and qaizes, less h~ 1~ She stated this was not unionism but desperation. She stated she e~n~ot afford to pay higher t~Xe~ but is willing go reduce he~ personal budget :tO dO $o. ~he stated that the County provides a much begger Schools whose tuition i~ exorbitent, Dance Club, stated ahoy were in total support of tho budget for Parks and Recreation. ~e gave examples of how their ~rs, N~noy Pannell, representine the Amateur Softball Associntion~ the Women'E Slow Pitch team and the Southside Department programs.
