Mr. Micam presented a brief overview of the respective roles
and responsibilities of the Board of Supervisors, Planning
Commissioners and Planning staff as they relate to land use in
the COunty.

Commission review of mehematic/site plan approvals, %~ntativs
subdivision approval and final subdivision vereu~ administra-
tive handling; public notice to th~ citizenry so they may hav~
input, if they desire, in the tentative subdivision approval
proce$~ res~on~iv~ne~ to the concerns of th~ small
businesses; the feasibility of establishing a committee to meet
with members of the small business community to Ii,ten to ~helr
concerns, problems, complaints, etc., and addre~
concern~ within th~ parameters of tbs Zonlug Ordlaence; review
of th~ Special sign and/er Overlay District ~tandards; improved

I= was generally agreed the Board of Supervisors and Plannin~
Commission member~ would review the ~oning Ordinance and make
recommendations for revlsion~ where necessary: ~taff would
review/identify oth~r areas where the Special Sign and Overlay
District standards may be appl±cable and mak~ ~ueh r~com-
mendations to the Eo~rd and Commission with ~he understanding
that the public hearing process would be conducted prior tc any
action; staff, Board of Supervlso=s and Planning Commission
members review end flag any discrepancies in the existing
ordinance for immediate a~tention; s~aff review the Seuthern~
Western and Eastern Area Land Use and Transportation ~lan~ for

Mr. Apple~ate announced that a Japanese firm has indicated a
desire to locate in Chesterfield County and directed staff to
address their nseds in an expeditiouD manner.
