ROLAND ROOKS ROBERT R. MERHIGE, JR, RICHMOND 7 VIRGINIA MARVIN F. COLE D.J-ESPOSITO December 5, 1955 Mr. Melvin Burnett, Executive Secretary Chesterfield County Chesterfield Courthouse, Virginia Dear Mr. Burnett: You will recall that I spoke with you and Mr. Herbert Gilliam in regard to selling 12 acres of land on Belmont Road for delinquent taxes. I am enclosing herewith a statement from the Clerk of the Chesterfield County Circuit Court and from the Treasurer of Chesterfield and you will note that taxes on this property have not been paid since 1947. The property involved is 12 acres on Belmont Road and your assessed valuation of this property is $240. As you know from my previous conversation, I represent Mr. J. Roland Rooke, who is going to open a new subdivision in the immediate vicinity. This 12 acres comes in on a sharp angle into Mr. Rooke's property and it would be advantageous to develop this 12 acres at the present time for several reasons. First it would provide for a more orderly develop- ment of the county since it would seem unreasonable to me to run roads right up to this little strip and then stop. The same would be true of utilities. In addition to that this property is now on the books of the county and is not producing any income. If the property kere sub- divided along with the other property which Mr. Rooke is going to sub- divide, it would go back on the books of Chesterfield County on a paying basis. If you are disposed to sell this property for delinquent taxes, I would very much appreciate your doing it as quickly as possible since plans for Mr. Rooke's subdivision are now underway. I realize, of course, that the sale would have to go through the Circuit Court of Chesterfield County and the land would have to be sold at public auction. I have taken the liberty of speaking with Mr. Herbert Gilliam in regard to this, but he informed me that he would not be able to handle this matter this year and would not be able to get to it for some time next year. You will recall that you also had a conversation with him in regard to this. I also spoke with Mr. Jerry Jewett in regard to handling this matter and he advised me that if it would be agreeable to Chester- field county that he would handle the matter for you. If there is anything that you can do in regard to this matter I would greatly appre- ciate it. Very truly yours, ROOKE, MERHIGE & COLE MFC:cwk
