childbirth ten (10) months later and Miles moved to Portsmouth,
but the property remained in the Duval family until 1902 when
Clay Drewry purchased it. He sold it in 1909 to Francis B.
Vaughan. In 1919, it was sold to E.T.- and J.F. Duval and it
passed through the hands of several owners until it was purchased
in 1976 by Hampton and Beverly Davis.
The house has a brick foundation and a .three-bay front in an
irregular plan. There are interior chimneys and a low pitched.

During discussion of this request with the Planning Commission
and Preservation Committee,, it was noted that the Central Area
Plan envisioned extending Hopkins Road in this area. The Commis-
sion and Committee recommended a condition be imposed on this
request, if approved by the Board, to assure that historic desig-
nation of this property did not preclude this future road project
and that the road project ryas ;designed to be as compatible as
practical with this historic community. Staff recommends that
the condition on page 2 of the "Request Analysis and Recommenda-
tion" be replaced with the following condition to more clearly
address this matter:
CONDITION
This designation shall not apply to any property required
for the planned relocation of Hopkins Road or the planned
widening of Centralia Road.
