These bids are being reviewed and once an award has been made, we will be reviewing our adoption fees and making recommendations for appropriate changes that reflect actual costs yet still encourage adoption. - We continue to enhance our partnerships with the approximately 50 rescue organization we work with in the metro azea to encourage and increase adoption/transfer rates. Several of these organizations aze working on an initiative that they will be announcing in the neaz future that should assist in increasing our adoption/transfer rate. - Memorandums of understanding with the Richmond SPCA, Richmond Animal League and the Chesterfield County Humane Society have been reviewed and are being submitted back to those organizations for their review and signature. - The staff at the shelter is also developing a partnership with the Chesterfield County Sheriffs Office. They have approached Sheriff Dennis Proffitt to see if it is possible to have an inmate work force assigned to the shelter to assist with cleaning. Sheriff Proffitt has been very supportive of this request and they are currently in the process of working out the details of this agreement and hope to have this arrangement in place within the next sixty days. a d N m N °' °o °-~ ~ o fO ~' ~ ~~ ~ c?i m ~a a .. ~, o ~_, ~ 3 ~ ~ ~ cD ~ O 01 ~ m ~' O ~ ~ Ol °- v •~r, ~ ~ m ~ 3 ~ m ~ ~ c °~, ~ D 4 ~ 7. n o c o ~ c ~ -, ~ C ~ j 01 ~ ° a N m ~ ~ ~ ~ c . The Humane Society became a 501-C-3 organization in February 1998 and incorporated in 2002. - Since 1997, the Chesterfield County Humane Society's volunteers have supported the Animal Control Unit with in-kind donations and services. The value of in-kind services and volunteer time are estimated by the CCHS to be worth approximately $30,000.00 a year. - Since 2000, CCHS has facilitated adoption of dogs and cats with their off-site adoption trailer at the PetSmazt on Rt. 360. These are shelter animals that aze taken to the off-site location by the CCHS trailer and adopted. The adoptions are handled just as they would be at the shelter. This is a positive display of the puppies and kittens from the shelter. Many children (volunteer age requirement is 18 years of age) who can not volunteer at the shelter; volunteer for the animal shelter at this venue. Volunteers spend time with citizens on important issues such as animal Gaze, county ordinances, training, and what to expect when adopting a new companion pet. This has reduced returns to the shelter because citizens did not know the expense, care, and cost of a new pet. At least one third of our adoptions come from this venue. - Volunteer efforts: o During two humcanes, the Chesterfield County Humane Society came to the employees' assistance by providing food, etc. to them as well as assistance to the animals. o On two occasions during the winter season the flu spread through the staff at the shelter. The Chesterfield County Humane Society, on Christmas Eve and Christmas morning cleaned, feed, and provided medical assistance to the animals. o In 2009, the Animal Control Unit made a seizure of over 60 plus animals which took over two days to complete. The Chesterfield County Humane Society assisted with the animals and provided medical Gaze for some of the cats that came into the shelter's custody. CCHS worked side by side with the staff helping provide care and assisted with the completion of impoundment paperwork. o Volunteers have been called in to the shelter when staffing is low to help both in the kennel and in the office. One CCHS volunteer can work in all azeas of the shelter and can perform functions from the office to the kennel. o In partnership with the Victim/Witness Assistance Program, the Chesterfield County Police Department and the Chesterfield County Animal Control Unit, created a program for the companion animals of victims of domestic violence. It was agreed that the information on the Pet Protection Program would not be published but that all service providers would know about the program in the event their clients were in need of this service. CCHS provides all medical services while the animal is housed at the shelter. The program began in 2000 and continues to this date. The last animal, a cat, in the program was there for approximately three months during 2009. o Promotes a Child with Special Needs program in partnership with the Animal Control Unit. ^ CCHS or Animal Control Unit recognizes a family with a child with special needs. ^ CCHS works with family to find a suitable dog or cat at the shelter ^ CCHS transfers the dog or cat to their vet to provide medical ^ The family adopts the dog or cat from CCHS. ^ CCHS provides all vaccinations, spay/neuter and other medical treatment at no cost to the family. o Promotes a Senior Citizen adoption program in partnership with the Animal Control Unit. ^ A senior citizen picks out a shelter dog or cat ^ CCHS transfers the dog or cat to their vet ^ After all vaccinations and health check up the senior citizen adopts the dog or cat from CCHS. ^ CCHS provides all vaccinations, spay/neuter, and other medical treatment at no cost to senior citizen. o In-Kind Donations: ^ Medical treatments. ^ Spay and neuter of some dogs and cats to make them more adoptable. ^ Surgeries that the animal shelter can not afford to do, such as, eye surgeries. ^ Drugs and medical supplies ^ Medical treatment, test, vaccinations and other procedures. ^ Washers and driers (We replace at least 5 per year, some are new and some are donations which CCHS solicited) ^ Office supplies (pens, paper, folders, etc.) ^ Outfitted two animal control vehicles with crates and equipment. ^ Food donated by citizens and different companies who donate to 501-C-3 organizations. ^ Donations of supplies from companies who donate to 501-C-3 organizations. ^ Towels ^ Bedding 2 ^ Collars ^ Leashes ^ Crates ^ Outfitted two animal control vehicles with crates and animal equipment. ^ Provide microchips scanners to all Animal Control Officers and the shelter. ^ Decorates the shelter, to make it customer friendly ^ Purchased temperature gauges for Animal Control Officers to aid in the investigations of animal cruelty cases. ^ Purchased refrigerators for staff to keep drinks and meals. ^ Purchased two refrigerators to keep animal medications. ^ Co-sponsors the Animal Control Appreciation luncheon with the Police Department. ^ Works with other rescues to transfer animals out of the shelter. ^ Provides cleaning supplies to staff to wash dishes, paper plates and other personal items. ^ Purchased special foods and other items for sick animals. ^ Provide food and medical treatment for animals of citizen to keep the animals from coming to the shelter. ^ Donated $5,000 to the county to buy needed equipment for Animal Control Officers. ^ Participated in disaster training with the animal shelter staff and is a part of the animal control disaster plan. 3 ~rr~~ ~~ (~~~~J~3 ~a~~o~:4 Q~~~~~ Q~®~~~i ~a~~~A~ • ~~ ~ , ~~~~~ .~ ~,,~' E' ~ ~-~ , a ~ ass~.n > •,~ a y~j 5a', E .~+~' ^ V ®C 1 1 Q.~~~E~~ ~~~~~~ ~ ~ ~ ~ 0 ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ s S~, ~. .~ ~~/ I~ W .~ ^~ ~I .~ .~ .~ ~~ V ~r C~ ~ ~ o '~ ~ W w .,..y ~i~®~~~ ©~On~2 ©~'®~~~ ~~'®~~~ r~ ,~ ~ i . ,, , ~~ :~ .: .=,~. a ~~ ~.'~~~~~ ~~~~~~ 1 1 ~' ~~ y~ ~~ ;~ .: *a ~~ ~- i.
