Mr. Ramsey stated staff would b~ presenting an operational overview of County departments. Chief Pittman reviewed specific programs within the County undertaken by the Police Department s~oh the modified community policing program in the Village Ett~ic~ and tl~e Park Lee Garden Apartment~ Project; a si~ila~ program instituted in an area bordered by the City of Richmond, ~ull Street Road, Walmsley Boulevard, Ttt~ner Road and selmont Road; the Anti-crime Task Force; ann the success of the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) Program. advised the Board of the regional efforts ef the County, Henrico County and the city of Richmond, including the ~ossibility of a regional police aviation unit and trims analysis programs such as the Ricb~uond ~etropolitan Drug Force, other such specializsd teams and the affect of these on the l~r. He noted they are c~rently p~eparlng southern ~d western area plans and a plan for ~e Route 1/301 Corridor. He r~viewed the ~ropo~ed work program for the Pla~img Deponent' includlng the =ou~ern and western area plan =om~let~on a~ well a~ the Riverfron% Plan. Chief Eanes presented an overview of the Fire Department including the Department's mission statement in providing e~cellent, state-of-the-art, pace setting, life and p~ope~ty responsibilities regarding the performance of preventive services such as ca~dic-pulmonary resuscitation training; the inspections; plans review; Coda eaaforocment; coal mine safety; {nvolvlng fires; ~ergenoy medical care end rescue situations; agencies. He alee reviewed the locations cf fire stations and ambulance distrists within the County; the hi~tory and organizational structure of the ~ergsncy Medisal services volunteer fire departments together; the total number of fire jurisdictions; the number of county-wide E~S calls and the number of re~pon[]oe; the impact ~h~ o~oning o~ 1-29~ would have on the Bensley/Bermuda Rescue Squad; the resources available to rescue and volunteer fire squads; critical response time to ES incidents such as in cardiac arrest cases; available'basic and advanced life support systems; response goals regarding priority calls; the ~oftwarc package u~ed for EKS; and the average emergeno~ time for medical calls, fire calls and hazardous materials team calls.
