Mr. McHale called the regularly scheduled meeting to order at
7:00 p.m. at the Thomas Dale High School auditorium.
Reveren~ Jim Wccdburn, Pastor of Berean Baptist ChUrch, gave
Kr. Ramsay le~ the Pledge of Alleqianoe to the Flag of the
BE~UDA DISTRICT S~HOOL BOARD REPBESENTATIVE
Mr. MsHale expressed appreciation to all attending the meeting
and stated this dat~ and tine h~s bee~ advertised for a public
hearin~ to identify those individuals who wi~h to be considered
for appointment to the School board from Bermuda Magisterial
Dietriet~ whose term Would be effective J~ly 1, 1995 end expire
December 31, 1995, and to accept public coTm~ent regarding their
qualifications. He further stated County voters approved
replacing the existing appointment process with elected school
boards and school Boa~d menders will be elected in NoVember,
1995, ~e stated the public hearing process for school Board
representatives is i~ accordance With the Chesterfield County
Charter as approved by county voters in a referendum in 1986,
adopted by the G~nurul Assembly in 19S7, and which became
effective January 1, 195~. Ne ~u~ther stated this is the
beginning of a m~w era a~ ~chool Board me,ers will now be
sleeted. He requested candidate~ wishing ~o be considered for
appointment to identify themselves at this time.
It WaS i~dieated one individual~ ~r. Marshall Trammell, Jr.,
had si~ned the sheet indicating his desire to serve as the
Bermuda District representative to the School Board.
Mr. Trammell c~me forward ~nd stated he is seeking appointment
to the School Board from Bermuda Magisterial District. Ne then
~ecl~red himself a candidate for appointment to the School
BoaFd f~om Bsrmnda Magisterial District and submitted his
resume to the Board. He outlined his education,
qualifications, and experience and stated he wished to be
considered for the appointment as his goals are to find a way
to make the School Board more responsible ts the general
public; to strengthen tke curriculum ~a kssp the County
competitive in the State, national, and world market arenas; ts
provide a mechanism for direct input to the decislon-~akinq
consolidate services of the School System and County; and to
keep discussions focused On issues. He further stated he
ha~ed education; elementary planning tima~ and ~alery
sompensation~ He stated h~ is committed te improving
communication with censtituentz, parantm, admini~trat0rs, and
Board m6mber~ and serving on the ~chool Board is an opportunity
to ~ape the live~ of c~ildr~ in a positive manner.
Ms. Ann Canipe; Ms. Dorothy Jaeckle; Mr. Ray Tr~villian;
Nslonis Do~l; Ms. Sandy Fox; Mr. Edward Thompsmn; and Ms.
Betty Ballard voiced support cf Mr. Tra~ell.
Nr. McHale inquired if there was anyone el~e pre~ent wh~ ~i~hed
B~r~ud~ Magisterial District.
The~e being no one else to announce their candidacy, the public
hearing was closed.
Nr. Daniel stated he supported Mr. Trammell,
Be~uda District on the School Board, at the time of his
appointment four years ago. ~e further stated he feels Mr.
Trammell has done an outstanding job in representing the
reappointment of ~r. Trammell.
Daniel and he has come ts appreciate the re~ponslbility of
being an elected er appointed official. He further stated he
~eels the School Board has done an outstanding job with limited
