The County Engineer stated that the survey of the citizens in the area of Cherry finsncial feeble. On motion of ~. Martin, seconded by Mr. Britton, it is resolved that this Board grant a Variance bo Mr. O. J. Wi$do~ for the construction of a dwelling on the Crostic Road leading southwardly from the Bailey Bridge Road, as shown on a map !i ecorded with the Board's papers, provided a 25-ft. strip of land, beginning at thJ Il ~enter of said road across the land owned by Mr. Wisdom be dedicated for road pur- l! poses and that the' County will accept no responsibility for the improvement of this i! road. i On motion of Mr. Goyne, seconded by Mr. Browning, it is resolved that the G0unty map be copyrighted subject to the aooroval of the Commonwealth's Attorney. Mrs. W. T. Burke-comes before the Board presenting certain views against the progrjM of paying firemen in the County and presents a statement requesting a 6©-day post- ponemen~ of action and a thorough investigation of the actions of fire departments~i ii Mr. Austin states that he was dismissed from the Manchester Fire Department in 1962! i for no reason at all. Mr. Burke states that he was released for n~ reason and iiand questions the feasibility of paying for firemen when there are young men in Cou~tywho ~re willing to join the volunteer fire d~partments. iMr. Robert Harris, a member o? the Midlothian Fire~ Department states that the il County does not need paid firemen. Chief Ward of the Forest View Fire Department States that the County is from 2 to 3 years late in asking for paid firemen. Upon further consideration and on motion of Mr. Apperson, seconded by Mr. Browningii it is resolved that the facts presented here be given for further consideration and study. Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Burton, 4~08 Ecoff Avenue c~me before the Board explaining they do not want the road so close to their property as the present l~-f%, right way on the Seaboard Airline RR, and that they will not sell under any conditions the triangular ~arcel of land which the County wishes to purchase to remove the obstacle of this right of way. Upon consideration whereof, a nd on motion of Mr. Goyne, seconded by Mr. Browning~l it is resolved that the motion to condemn this triangular parcel of land on the Burton Dropertv on January 26, i. 967, be and it hereby is rescinded. It is here noted that Mr. Ap~erson votes Nay. Hr Charles Quaiff, Chair~an of the C ~ ~ = · om~ .....~e~ of representatives from Manchester, Meadowbrook snd Thomss D~]e High Schools cc~es before the Board citing the need for Dress boxes, concession~stands & restroom~facilities for the three high school~ and presents plans showing how such buildings could be erected. It was estimated that the approximate cost for each school would be ~20,000.00. ties at Thomas Dale, Manchester and Meadowbrook High Schools and that rest room facilities be provided at Midlothian and Matoaca High Schools. Whereupon, a letter was read from the Matoaca HighSchool Activities Booster Club ~, requesting the same facilities outlined for other High Schools. Upon consideration whereof, and on motion of Mr. Goyne, seconded by Mr. Martin, it It is resolved that this Board provide for apDroximately $20,0OO to install recrea- · tional facilities at Meadowbrook, Thomas D~le, Manchester, Matoaca and Midlothian High Schools and that the School Board be requested to reimburse the General Fund for this amount if ~he forthcoming Bond Issue for school improvements is passed. On motion of Mr. Goyne, seconded by Mr. Browning, it is resolved that the sum of ~1600.00 be appropriated from the unappropriated surplus of the General Fund to Item 17d3-298 in the School budget for the purpose of setting up a job procurement facility during the summer months for the school children of this County. On motion of Mr. Britton, seconded by Mr. Goyne, it is resolved that the Executive Secretary be authorized to write to the Inter-Club Council denying the request for the County to participate in appointing someone to study the possibility of merger or consolidation with the City of Richmond due to the fact that this Board had already publicly declared itself against such a procedure. On motion of Mr. transfer $64,907.50~rom the unappropriated surnlus of the General Fund to for the County School Board for the year 1967-'~8 in the amount of $19,823,811.O0 gives to the $outhside Emergency Rescue Squa~ $1000.OQ~which organization is attempting to raise $90,000.00 to build a new headquarters building which would s~rv~ the southern part of Chesterfield Oounty.. On motion of Mr. Coyne, seconded by Mr. Hritton, it is resolved that this Board requests the Highway Department to investigat~ Elliham Avenue and to install 25-m speed signs if possible. On motion of Mr. Martin, seconded by Mr. Drowning, it is re~olved that this Bdard requests the Nighway Department to investigate the feasibility of installing 25-mph speed signs on Pinetta Lane. UPon consideration whereof, and on motion of Mr. ~iartin it is resolved that North Pinetta Drive, Redington Drive, Bayliss Drive, Brantley Road, and Williamsdale Drive in the Brighton Green Subdivision, Section 6, Midlothian District, be and are hereby established as public roads. And be it further resolved, that the Virginia Department of Highways be and it her~ by is requested to take into the Secondary Road System, North Pinetta Drive, from the southwestern end of state maintenance on Rt. 755, south-westwardly.02 mi. to its intersection with Redington Drive; Redington Drive, from a point on Rt. 755 .20 mi. southwest of its intersection with Rt. 1999, northwestwardly .08 mi. to its intersection with Bayliss Drive, thence westwardly .09 mi. to its intersection with Brantley Road,thence westwardly .04 mi. to a cul-de-sacS Bayliss Drive, ~rom a point on Redington Drive .08 mi. northwest of its intersection with Rt. 755, northeastwardly .03 mi. to existing state maintenance; Brant!ey Road, from a point on Redington Drive .09 mi. west of its intersection with Bayliss Drive, northwardl~ .06 mi. to its intersection with Williamsdale Drive, thence northwardly .09 mi. to a cul-de-sac; and Williamsdale Drive, from a point on Brantley Road .06 mi. north of its intersection with Redington Drive, eastwardly and northwardly .13 mi. to existing state maintenance. And be it further resolved that the Board of Supervisors guarantees a 66-ft. right of way for Pinetta Drive and 50-ft. rights of ways for the other route to the Virginia Department of Highways. Plat recorded in Plat Book 14 pages 77 and 78, July 6, 1965. ' Several bids were presented for the p~chase of six (6) adding machines for the Treasurer's Office and it was cited that ~r. Moore requested Burroughs machines, although there were six (6) bids less than Burroughs. On motion of Mr. Goyne, it is resolved that the Purchasing Agent be authorized to purchase the kind of machin~ the Treasurer desires. It is here noted that Mr. Browning does not vote stating that he cannot support the purchase from the highest bid.
