MINUTES
September 3, 1987
Supervisors in Attendance:

Mr. R. Garland Dodd
Mr. Daniel called the meeting to order at 12:00 Noon in the
Administration Building Conference Room (Room 502) and stated
the purpose of the meeting was to announce the selection of a
new County Administrator. He stated the search was one of the
strongest and most diligent tasks undertaken by the Board of
Supervisors. He stated the consultants focused their search on
criteria established by the Board of Supervisors, which cri-
teria included not only academic credentials but also job
knowledge and experience. He stated ninety-four (94) applica-
tions were received and the Board extensively interviewed five
(5) candidates, each of whom were well qualified to be Chester-
field's County Administrator. He stated it was the full
consensus of the Board that Mr. Lane B. Ramsey be offered the
position of County Administrator. He stated Mr. Ramsey, during
his years of service to the County, has been competent, profes-
sional and is well qualified to serve as County Administrator.
Mr. Daniel stated Mr. Dodd was unable to be present due to an
unusual circumstance; however, he was in support of Mr. Ramsey
and that support would be documented for the record. (A copy
of said documentation is filed with the papers of this Board.)
On motion of Mrs. Girone, seconded by Mr. Applegate, the Board
appointed Mr. Lane B. Ramsey as County Administrator, effective
September 3, 1987.
Ayes: Mr. Daniel, Mr. Mayes, Mr. Applegate and Mrs. Girone.
Absent: Mr. Dodd.
Mr. Daniel recognized Mrs. Ramsey who was present. Mr. Ramsey
stated the future of Chesterfield County is an awesome respon-
sibility and committed to the Board that he and his staff will
guide the County through the upcoming years to the best of
their ability. He stated Chesterfield County is on the thres-
hold of becoming a leader in the region and before the next
decade will have the largest population of any locality in the
region, which is indicative of the leadership the County
maintains. He expressed appreciation to the Board for their
confidence and the opportunity to serve the County in this
capacity and stated he looked forward with anticipation to the
future.
Mr. Ron Livingston, Clerk of the Circuit Court, was present to
swear in Mr. Ramsey as County Administrator.
On motion of Mr. Mayes, seconded by Mr. Applegate, the Board
adjourned at 12:10 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on September 9, 1987.

Absent: Mr. Dodd.
