Dear Mr. Burnett:
I am in receipt of two resolutions from the Chesterfield County Board of
Supervisors concerning the improvements to the extension of State Route 802
beyond state maintenance. One is dated March 12, 1969 and the other dated
October 27, 1971.
In 1969 the Board requested an improvement of 0.2 of a mile on the extension
of Route 802 to take same into the state secondary system at a cost not to
exceed $2,035.00. We obtained an accounts receivable number to bill the
County for this work but due to right of way problems we were unable to
proceed.
The Board's resolution of October 27, 1971 requests to improve ~he extension
of Route 802 at a cost not to exceed $500.00 without giving a definite
distance. I reviewed this location with Mr. Martin in December of 1971,
and also reviewed this location with Mr. Ere~ela on January 19, 1972.
Since we have set up two accounts receivable numbers for this same route,
we would appreciate the Board rescinding it's resolution of March 12, 1969
and amending the resolution of October 27, 1971 to read_0,.2 of a mile
beyond state maintenance on Route 802 at a cost not to exceed $1,500.00
Your action in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Very truly yours,
/
E. L. Covingtof~, Jr., Resident Engineer

A HIGHWAY IS AS SAFE AS THE USER MAKES IT
Whereas, the Board of Supervisors has reviewed preliminary
plans for the extension of Powhite Parkway into the County from
Chippenham Parkway; and
Whereas, the Board of Supervisors is anxious to have this
extension formalized and implemented as soon as possible; and
Whereas, the State Highway Commission usually holds a
corridor public hearing and design public hearing prior to the
acquisition of any right-of-way for new roadways; and
Whereas, there are several property owners in the County
concerned with this extension and who would like to know of its
disposition as soon as possible;
Now, therefore,be it resolved that the Chesterfield County
Board of Supervisors requests that the State Highway Commission
schedule the corridor and design hearings on the Powhite Parkway
extension as soon as possible and that the County be advised of
these dates.
Whereas, the State Highway Commission has held one or more
public hearings on the reconstruction and/or relocation of Route
147 from its intersection of Route 60 to somewhat past its inter-
section with Route 711; and
Whereas, the area of Chesterfield County generally within
the area bounded by U. S. 60, Route 711, and Route 147 is experi-
encing intense developmental pressures; and
Whereas, the relocation of 147 will have substantial impact
on future developments in the area; and
Whereas, the Highway Department plans for Route 147 should
be finalized as soon as possible so that the County can proceed
with proper planning and land use controls around the proposed
improvements;
Now, therefore, be it resolved that Chesterfield County Board
of Supervisors request the Virginia Highway Commission to proceed
with the planning and implementation of the Route 147 improvements
as soon as possible and the Board of Supervisors be advised as to
the Commissions final action as soon as possible.

Dear Mr. Burnett:
We would like to call your attention to the need
for charges in the location of some of our precincts
before another election.
1. Winfree's Store (the owner of the present
location~has asked that we move)
2. Winterpock (need for more space)
3. Wagstaff Circle (congestion of traffic and
lack of parking facilities)
We would further appreciate your consideration of
the following financial matters:
1. Purchase of voting machines
Considering the growth of the County and
the upcoming presidential election a total
of 64 machines will be the minimum requirement
for proper operation. This means we will
need to purchase 8 additional machines. (see
attached breakdown)
2. Increase in Registrar's salary
It is felt that the Registrar's salary is too
low and not in line with the surrounding
areas' salaries for registrars.
We will be glad to answer any questions that you might
have on the above items.
tEuly,
Mrs D. O. Meldrum

Mr. Stan Balderson
Senior Planner
Chesterfield County Planning Department
Chesterfield County, Virginia 23832
Dear Mr. Balderson:
Confirming our telephone conversation on Jan-
uary 21, 1972, I contacted Mrs. Patty Jordon con-
cerning her desire to start a catering service out
of her home at 10215 Seville Drive.
I informed Mrs. Jordon that she would be
required to meet the Virginia State standards for
a food establishment selling food to the general
public. It was determined she could not meet
these requirements in her present home kitchen.
I have sent her a State Bulletin on Rules and
Regulations Governing Restaurants in the State of
Virginia. She indicated she might try to find
another location for the establishment of her
catering business.
Sincerely,
Chesterfield Health Dept.
