PROPOSAL
Operation of a helipad to accommodate med-flights for Johnston Willis Hospital is planned. The
applicant indicates that currently med-flight helicopters use a grassy area on hospital property
(identified on Map 3, page 4). The proposed helipad location is closer to the emergency room and
further away from public roads (Exhibits A –D). In addition, proposed flight paths will be over
commercial properties and other medical facilities, away from residential uses (Exhibit A). The
applicant indicates that, on average, the hospital receives patients by helicopter 10 to 15 times per
year.

Mr. Waller noted the important community service provided with this
proposal. He concluded that given the anticipated number of flights, the
amended flight pattern, and the applicant’s commitment to resolve the
offsite buffer, he did not see an increased impact on area residential
uses.
