Mrs. Norris Jones comes before the Board requesting a Variance from the necessity
of construcving a roadway in front of a proposed duplex home and cites the fact
that she did not want the road opened for general public use

is nov responsible in any way for the construction of this road, and that the
house will face on Jackson Street.
On motion of Mr.Goyne, secondeU by Mr.Britton, it is resolved that the Buildin~
Inspector be and he hereby is authorized to tra~;sfer a fee paid by Mr. John E.
[~[urdock, Jr., on Lots 3 and 4, Block "B" Section 2 Mt. Blanco Subdivision, to
a new sev of plans on the same lot. ' '
On morion of Mr. Driskill, seconded by Mr. Britton, it is resolved that the request
of Mr. Boyd Hinton to sub~flivide certain property on Rt..SO in the vicinity of
Midlothian be referred to the Planning Commission for consideration.

a Virginia Corporation, being the owners of all the property on, over which or

(2) That such vacation s~all become effective upon the execution, acknowledgment
and r~cordation of an appropriate Declaration of Vacation in form aDproved by
the Commonwealth's Attorney.
On motion of Mr.Driskill, seconded by Mr.Britton, it is resolved that this County
accept an easemenv on Lot 5, Block D, Section E, in Cre~-stwood Farms, which easement
will afford ~he Highway Department to better drain Bloomfield Road.
This day the County Road Engineer in accordance with directions from this Board
made report in writing upon his exa,~nation of Traylor Drive and Wainfleet Drive~
in the Traytor Estates Subdivision, in Mid!ot~ian Magisterial District, which
shows that in che opinion of theCounty Road Engineer it is expedient that said
roads be e staa~!ished as public roads.
Upon consideration whereof, and on motion of Mr. Driskill, it is resolvedthat
Traylor Drive, and Wainfleet Drive in ~.~he Subdivision of Traylor Estates,
Midlothian Magisterial Disvrict, be, and the same are hereby established as public
road s.
And be it further resolved, that the Virginia Department of Highways be and it
~ereby is requested to take into the Secondary Road System of ~hesterfield County,
taylor Drive, from the intersection of Rts. 17~? and 1~36, .26 of a mile north
~o Rt.70~; Wainfleet Drive, from a point onRt. 1790, .Og of a mile south of

guaranvees to the Virginia Department of Highways, rights of way of not less t~an 50

made report in writing upon his examination of Blue Field Road, Cottonwood

Magisterial District, which shows that in the opinion of the County Road En?ineer

in the Cambridge Subdivision, Midlothian Magisterial District, which shows that
in the opinion of the County Road Engineer it is expedient that said roads be
established as public roads.
Upon consideration whereof, and on motion o[~ Mr. Driskill~ it is resolved tba. t
Cromwell Road an~] Swathmore Road, in the Cambr±~e Subdivision, Midlothian District~
be, and the same are hereby established as public roads.
And ce it further resolved, that the Virginia Department of Highways be, and it
hereby is~equested to take into the Secondary Road System of Chesterfield County,
Cromwell Road, ffrom a point on Rt. 1~7, .69 of a mile west of Rt. 1710, .13 of
a mile south toSwathmore Road, thence .10 of a mile South to a turn-around;
Swathmore Road, from a point on Cr~well Road, .13 of a mile south of Rt. lgT,
.06 of a mile eastwardly and .14 of a mile southwardly to a turn-around. These
roa~s serve 3 houses.
And be it further resolved, that the Board of Supervisors of Chesterfield County
,guarantees to the Virginia Department of Highways, rights of way of not less than
50 feet for these roads.

This day the County Road Engineer in accordance with directions from this Board
made report in writing upon his examination of Inge Road in Bermuda Magisterial
District, which shows that in theopinion of the ~ounty Road Engineer it is
expedient that said road be established as a public road.
Upon consideration whereof, and on motion of Mr. Goyne, it is resolved that Inge
Road in Bermuda Magisterial District, be, and the same is ~ereby established as
a public road.
~.nd be iv further resolved, that the Virginia Department of Highways, be and
it hereby is reouested to take into the Secondary Road System of Chesterfield
In~e Road, from a point on Rt. 10, .17 miles East of Rt.619, .12 of a mile south
to a dead end. T?is road serves ~ houses.
And be it further resolved, that the Board of Supervisors of Chesterfield County
gua'ran~ees to the Virginia Department of Hi/~hways, ri~b,t of way of not less than
50 feet for this road.

Therewas read a letter from the Municipal Paving Company reauesting a~ e:ctension
of time to complete its contract with the County for certai~ hazed-surfacing and
paving work a~ the Courthouse. Upon considerst, ion whereof, and on m.otion of
Mr. Britton, seconded t¥ ~,:r. Driskill, it is resolved that the Y_unicipal P~.~ving
Company be given until October 18, 1961~ to complete its contract.

That ~he Ordinance adopted by the Board of Supervi,~ors esta:_lishing Daylight
Saving Time, ~.,zbich became effective on April 30~ 1961, and to remain in full
force a~:d effec~untzl' ,:.zdnz~ht,? '~' 'Oct. ooer' 29, 1961, is hereby repealed as of
2:00 A.~.:. October 1, 1961.
Upon the eff"ective date of said'Orainance, Standard Time shall govern the
conduct of all business and elections in Chesterfield County.
There wer~ presented bids for fire sirens and it appears that the Ricbznond Rubber
Company is the a~parent low bidder, on motion of ~[r. Brit'ton, seconded by
Ha~Terman, it is resolved that t.h Purchasing Zgent be and he hereby is authoz~ized
vo purchase five (5) sirens for the various Fire Departments requesting same.
On motion of Mr. Hagerman, seconded by [dr. Driskill, it is resolved that this Boar~
employ as a jail physician Dr.Robert Phillips, whose fee will be set at ~5.OO
for the first v~siv and ~2.00 for a~ch additional visit on the same case..

criticizing the Street Numbering Pro,ram and requests that t¼~ name of Strathmore
Road go unchanged. ~'~
WHEREAS, the Benslev Volunteer Fire Dapartment'flid participate in the reaional
~ ~ ~ 1961 and ~
~arade of fire equipment on ~ep m~,er 23, ,
?fREi-tEAS, the Bensley Volunteer Fire Department was awarded first prize for having
the best fire truck anci best maintained fire truck; and
WHEREAS, the Bensley Volunteer Fire Department was awarded another first prize for
displaying the best equipped truck;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT it~JSOLVED, on motion of ..~Wr.~oyne,'~ ~conded by ~-ir. Haaue, that
this Board of Supervisors publicly records its co~endation of the Bensiey
Volunteer Fire 'Department and expresses its gratitude for the fine spirit of
achievement and cooperation exhibited by this Fire Department.
On motion of Mr. Britton, seconded by Mt. Hague, it is reso%ved that this Board
purchase on the advice of the ~ountv Engineer the Burroughs billing machine for the
'~/ate r Department. '
On motion of Ym.Govne~ seconded by l~[r.Hague, it, is resolved that the date of
October 27th be set as the time of a meetin~ for the members of the Board of
Supervisors, Commonwealth's Attorney and the Legislators of the Counties in this
particular area being named as Chesterfield, Henrico, Prince George, Powhatan,
Hanover and Goochland, and than Mr. Goyne, the Executive Board member from the
Third Region be recues%ed to set up the program and the place of meeting.
On motion of Mr. Britton, seconded by Mr.Hagerman, it is resolved that this Board
pay ~o Mr. John McDonald the sum of ~250.00 for a 70~ft. strlp of right of way,
plus a 20-ft. easemen% for ths widening of this road~ between Man~nester~ Heights
and Marlboro. ~
On motion of Mr. Hague, seconded by Mr. Goyne, it is resolved that this Board
approve the reauest of Mr. George W.?doora,Jr., Treas.trer for an additional
~1000.O0 for e~tra help during the curt,ant d'alendar year. It is underst'ood that
one-half of this amount be paid by the County and one-half by the State.
And be it further resolved, that the ~285.00 unused portion of Mrs. Battle's salary
be transferred to extra help. ~
On mo%ion of Mm. Driskill, seconded by kr. Britton, it is resolved that the
erroneous tax claims of Mr. Nelson W.Royal in the amounts of ~:100.~6 and ~92.64
be and they hereby are anproved .~or payment.
On motion of Mt. Hague, seccnded hy Mr. Hagarman~ it is resolved that the sum of
~5000.00 be ao?rop[2ia%~d to l~sem !S in the County General Fund budget.
On motion of Lr. Britton, seconded by Llr. Driskill, it is resolved that the
