WHEREAS, the United States of America is the owner of a certain 1.28 acre tract of land in Bermuda District, Chesterfield County, Virginia, shown as '~proposed road~.~? on a certain plat entitled, "Map of 6.80 acres of land proposed~ to be conveyed by H.E;Litchford et al to Richmond Battlefield Park Corporation, dated August 26, 1929, made by W.W.LaPrade & Bros., Civil Engineers and Surveyors, Richmond, Virginia, which said plat is recorded in Deed Book 206, page 1~7, in the Clerk's Office of the Circuit Court of Chesterfield County, Virginia; and WHEREAS, the conveyance of thiw said tract of land herein referred to as "proposed road" from the United States of America to the County of Chesterfield could be effected under the provisions of the Act of June 3, 19~8 (62 Stat.334, 16 VCS,Sec. SE), if the County of Chesterfield will accept the land and main~ ~ain a road thereon which the said County of Chesterfield is willing to do. Now, Therefore, Be it Resolved, by the Board of Supervisors of Chesterfield County, Virginia, the governing board of the County of Chesterfield, that the said County agrees to accept the aforeszid tract of 1/28 acres known and above referred to as "proposed road" and to maintain a road thereon providing that the aaid County may, for engineering reasons, relocate any portion of the road to provide easier access between existing public roa~s and Fort Darling Property of the United States of America. Be it Further Resolved, that the Executive Secretary is authorized to make an application on behalf of the County to the United States Of America for a conveyance of the land to the County of Chesterfield. Whereas, it has been reported that the National Park Service has agreed to restore Fort Darling as nearly as possible to its original appearance; and Whereas, Fort Darling is one of the ~ost imposing examples of the Civil War fortifications existing; and ~hereas, it would b e a great benefit to the entire Dutch Gap area and to the County in general to have Fort Darling restored; Now,Therefore, Be it Resolved, on motion of Mr. Goyne, seconded by Nr.Driskill, that this Board records its wholehearted commendation to the National Park Service for its part in the restoration of Fort Darling. Stephens, Supt.,Richmond National Battlefield Park, be, and he is publicly co~mended for his perspicacity in the planning of the mestoration of Fort Darling. ~r. Goyne filed with the Board an editorial appearing in the ProEress-Inde~, a Petersburg Newspaper, concerning Petersburg's position in the Civil War Centennial and requested the Executive Secretary invite the City of Petersburg and the City of Colcnial Heights to cooperate in'any way that they felt feasible. Mr.Goyne requested the survey of the Parker's Battery Road to ascertain the cost of improving same. A letter from Mr.J.V.Clarke was read, which letter concerns the future circumferential road plans of the County and requests the approval of the County Board of Supervisors in the Highway's surveyinE of said road~, and to hold up presently plans of constru- ction until proper investigation of the overall planning and needs of the County can be accomplished. This day ~he County Road Engineer in accordance with directions from this Board made report' in writing upon his ~amination of Westover Drive in April Acres Subdivision, in ~anchester Magisterial District, which report shows that in th& opinion of the County Road Engineer it is expedient that said road be established as a public road. Upon consideration whereof, and on motion of Mr.B~itton, it is ~resolved that Westover Drive in the April Acres Subdivision, Manchester District, be, and the same is hereby established.as a public road. And be it further rezolved, that the Virginia Department of· Highways, be and it hereby i s requested to take into the State Secondary System, Westover Drive, from the intersection of Rt. 1~7 and Rt. 1948, .09 of a mile westwardly to a dead end. ~his road serves 4 houses. Reconvening: ~Whereas, the Consulting Engineer for the Water Department has advised the County that the present water supply will be inadequate during the coming summer, and Whereas, the County 8fficials have been negotiating with the City Officials for a contract for the sale of water from the City to the northern part of the County; Now, Therefore, Be it Resolved, on motion of Mr.Britton, seconded by Mr.Driskill, that the contract for the sale of water between the County of Chesterfield and the City of Richmond be and it hereby is approved,and the Chairman and Executive Secretary are authorized to sign said contract for the County, subject only to the approval by the Water Committee of the boundary limits of the area to be served by the City, On motion of Nr. Hagerman, seconded by Mr.Britton, it is resolved that the County Purchasing Agent be authorized to purchase for the Matoaca ~olunteer Fire Depart- ment a revolving beacon light for the fire truck.
