The County Engineer reported that the offer for the purchase of the Baldwin property on Rt. i0, which property is to be used for a pumping station and other utility uses, was accepted by the owner. The County Engineer presented a problem to running a water line to the new location of the Shell Oil Company at the corner of Chippenham parkway and Forest Hill Avenue. On motion of Nr. Britton, seconded by Mr. Driskill, it is resolved that a 12" line be installed and the County pay the difference between an S': and a 12" water line. On motion of i'{r.Britton, seconded by Mr. Driskill, it is resolved that the Elkhardt Baptist Church be and it hereby is reo~ested to pay for a 12" water line .for 120 feet to the property line along Rt.360. On motion of N~r.briskill, seconfled by Hr.Ooyne, it is resolved that the following street name changes be and they hereby are approved: Cedar Grove Road to Westgate Drive. Oroatan Road to Westgste Drive. On motion of N[r.Britton, seconded by Rr. Driskill, it is resolved that ~;alem koad be and it hereby is changed to P. urchie's Rill Road. On motion of Rr. Goyne, seconded by F.r. Britton, it is resolved 'that Edison Avenue be and it hereby is changed to Key ~venue. On motion of Nr.Britton, seconded by Nr.Driskill, it is resolved that this Board accept the easement signed by i~lr. Parker dedicating a utility strip iO fe~ in width on the eastern line of the Stratford Hills Shopping Center. Mt. Bookman comes before the Board requesting the Board to accept a deed to a 50-ft. right of wayleading from Providence Road to the new location of the Central Chesterfield Center, Inc., citing the fact that the Board of Zoning Appeals had granted a Use Permit for the construction of this public building and that the Planning Commission had generally approved the location of the 50-foot right of way leading to said building. On motion of Mr.Britton, seconded by Kr. Drksill, it is resolved that this Board accept an easement to be approved by the Commonwealth's ;~_ttorney, provided the road be constructed to meet the specifications of the i-iighway Department or a suitable bond be pre~ented, guaranteeing said construction before the "Certificate of Occupancy" is approved by the Building Inspector. It is here noted that plans and profiles of the proposed road must be alproved by the Highway Department and County Engineer prior to the issuance of the Building permit. This day the County f[os.:i Engineer in accordance with directions from this Board made report in writing upon his examination of Glendale Street in the subdivision of ~ormandale Terrace, Bermuda },lagisterial District, which shows that in the opinion of the County Road Engineer it is e~pedient that said road be established as a public road. Upon consideration whereof, and on motion of Hr.Goyne, it is re-solved that Glendale Street in the subdivision of Normandale Terrace, Bermuda District, be, and the same is hereby established as a public ro~d. And beit further resolved that the Virginia Department of Highways be and it hereby is established as a public road. And be it further resolved, that the Virginia Department of Highways be and it hereby is requested to take into the Secondary Road System of Chesterfield County, Olendal~e Street, in Normandale Terrace, Bermuda District, from a poiht on Rt. 615, .~6 ~ .... ~ '~ mzle~' nor't~st o.,~ R~t. 616, .06 of a mile northwest to Arcadia Avenue. It was generally agreed that Nr. Lancaster be requested to gi~ e an estimate of the cost of the cost of constructing said road. There was re~d a letter from Kr.z.D.Nubbard, District Engineer, approval of subdivisions by t~e ~iighway Department. A discussion arose as to the problem ~erta~ning to ?~aleigh ~ourt drainage and it was generally agreed that the Executive Secretary would contact Nr. Jack Kay, ~ttornev,. for the ri~'bt..~ of way, and arran;~o~ a conference pertaining_ to this ma tt er. On motion of Nr.Britton, seconded by Nr. Driskill, it is resolved that a plat signed by LaPrade Bros., showin~ the proposed location of a road leading from Old Broad Rock Road to the property of ~'.A.B~ake be referred to the County Engineering Department and the }[ighway Department for approval. Goyne, it is resolved that the Executive Secretary be and he hereby is requested to advertise the above Ordinance for a public hearing on karch 23, 1961, at 7:30 p.m. On motion of Hr. Hsgue, seconded by l'ur. Driskill, it is resolved that the Executive Secretary be and he hereby is authorized to grant permits for the operation of Rescue Squads in the County of Chesterfield insofar as they conform-to the Ordinance controlling said operation. On motion of [,'ir. Hague, seconded by Nr. Goyne, it is resolved that a Variance from the Subdivision requirements be granted to kr. Zane G. Davis to allow *~= " ' ' of a tract of lend fronting on Rt.60~ as shown on 8 plat filed with the Board's papers, provided the County received a deed acceptable to the Co~monwealth's Attorney for a widening strip of 18 feet on said road right, of way'. Driskill, it is resolved that a Variance be granted to tVlr.Romaine Vaughan to allow the construction of a residence on an unimproved right of way located 1200 feet northwest from St.Route 669. On motion of }]r. Hagerman~ seconded by i{r.Driskill~ it is resolved that a Variance be granted to R8ymond .~i. Perkinson to allow the construction of a dwelling on the Niry Branch Road~ which rcad is unimproved, approximately 8gO ·feet from Rt.oO2. On motion of Mr. Goyne, seconded by Nr. Britton, it is resolved that a Variance be granted to ['.'ir.Robert Hatchel to allow electrical service to be installed in an out-building ~resently being used as living quarters located on Curtis ~-~reet~ providet the building will no longer be used as a residence except by the present occupant. On motion of Mt. Hague.. seconded by Nir. Hagerman~ it is res0.1ved that this Board pay .the sum of ~38~?12.00 'to the Roanoke Iron and Bridge Company for ~,,ork completed at the n~w jail building. On motion of Mr. Hague~ seconded by F~r. Hager~man, it is resolved that this Board pay the sum of ~12,992.g0 to the Bonding Company of the M.£.Howard Construction Company, which is for work completing the r~w jail building. The Executive Secretary read a letter .of commendation for the Police Department which letter was written by the Secretary of the Broad Rock Ruritan Club, and said letter was ordered received and filed. :~ 6opy of a letter apparently sent to the Editor of the News Leader was read for the Board's ~earing, which letter was somewhat humorous and dealt with the criticism leveled at the County by the Editor of the News Leader.
