On motion of Mr. Hagerman, seconded by Mr.Goyne, it is resolved that the
Resident Engineer and the County Road Engineer meet with Mr. Hagerman to
investigate the drainage condition on Halloway Avenue and Hampton Road.
On motion of Mr. Goyne, seconded by R~.Driskill, it is resolved that the
Resident Engineer and County Road Engineer meet with Mr. Goyne to investigate
the drainage at the residence of Mrs. Anna Dodge in Chester.
On motion of Mr.Goyne, seconded by Mr.Ha~ue, it is resolved that this Board
request the Highway Department to construct a system of culverts across South
Street in Bermuda District and to connect Rt. 1135 withRt. 1141, at a price
not to exceed $3000.00, to be paid from the 3~ Road Fund of the County.
On motion of Mr.Britton, seconded by Mr.Driskill, i~ is resolved that this
Board of Supervisors authorize the Highway Department to condemn a right of
way leading southwardly from Walmsley Boulevard across the property of Mrs.
Robertson, which right of way is to. be used for drainage purposes, with the
understanding that the County of Chesterfield will pay for the condemnation
COSTS.
On motion of Mr.Britton, seconded by Mr.Driskill, it is resolved that this Boar
~equest the Highway Department to investigate the feasibility of a ~top and
Goli~h~ at the intersection of Rt.644 and Rt.360.
This day Miss Lucy Corr, Supt. of Public Welfare, came before the Board
requesting an increase in the Christmas Baske~<~Fund from ~100.O0 to ~2OO.OO.'
Upon consideration whereof, and on motion of Mr. Goyne, seconded by Mr. Hague~
it is resolved that the request of Miss Corr be and it hereby is granted.
Thisday Mr. Bedwell came before the Board requesting a building permit to
construct a building on the lane to the old Butler property, leading southwardly
from Hickory Road. Upon consideration whereof, and on motionof Mr. Hagerman,
seconded by Mr. Driskill~ it is resolved that this Board deny the request of
Mr.Bedwell until such time as such road right of way can be acceptably negotiate~

On motion of ~lr. Britton,seconded by Mr. Driskill, it is resolved that the game
claims as presented by the Game Warden be and they hereby are approved for
payment.
On motion of Rir.Britton, seconded by Mr. Hagerman, it is resolved that the Final
Budget of the Highway Department on the Secondary Roads in the County of
Chesterfield be and it hereby is approved.
This day Mr. Roland R. Newcomb came before the Board requesting the rezoning
of a parcel of land from Agriculture to Industrial, whichland is described as
follow s:
In Manchester Magisterial District, a 3-1/2 acre parcel of land
bounded by the ACL Main Line on the West, the ACL Spur Line on the
north and east, and by a small creek on the south, which parcel is
requested to be rezoned from Agriculture to Indmstrial.
And there appearing no one to oppose th~s requested rezoning, on motion of blr.
Britton, seconded by Mr.Driskill, it is resolved that the above described
parcel of land be and it hereby is rezoned for industrial purposes.
This day ~r.Fred Barnes came before the Board requesting the Board to lend
its aid in forcing the payment for certain materials used in installing a
water supply system in the subdivision of Beulah Village. Upon consideration
whereof, and on motion of Mr. Goyne?~sec~ge~a~~ Mt. Hague, it is resolved that
this Board request Mr. J.T.Moore, %ne oI~xcm of the Tat, Lumber Company,and
th~ officials of Lyttl~ and Bar~es Construction Company, to discuss an equitabl,
solution to the problem of payment for materials ~sed in Beulah Village and
if an equitable solution cannot be reached the named three parties meet with
this Board so that a satisfactory solution can be reached, taking into
consideration the best interest ~of all parties concerned.
On ~otion of Mr. Haserman, seconded by R, kr.Britton, it is resolved that a
standard water contract for the Tri-City Cons%ruction Company for a 6" line
on Oakland Avenue be and it hereby is approved.
The County Engineer state~ that Mr. Weeks had approved the installation of a
10" water line on Rt. 10 which was changed from the recommended 8" line.
The County Engineer reported that approximately 2000 feet of water line on
Rt.63? was proposed to be laid in a swamp area and that cast iron had been
recommended in certain locations, also, the Highway Department had requested
the area be back-filled with good ~aterials. Upon considerati

On motion of Mr.Britton, seconded by Mr. Hague, it is resolved that the County
Engineer make a survey of the G~een Pines Subdivision and recommend the size of
water lines necessary to serve this area.
On motion of Mr. Driskill, seconded by Mr. Britton, it is resolved that this
Board approve an additional appropriation of ~300.O0 in the postage account
of the Treasurer for the calendar year 1957.

Treasurer of the County be and he hereby is authorized to appropriate from
the unappropriated surplus of the County's General Fund ~500.OO to Item 13-112-
Payment of Election Officials.
This day Mr.}{.T.Goyne, Supergiisor, Bermuda District, brought before the BOard
certain assessment complaints on his own real estate properties and those of
several persons in his district. After considerable discussion of this
matter, ~r. Goyne,moved that the entire Bermuda District be re-assessed.
That Commonwealth,s Attorney ruled that no single district could be re-assessed
Whereupon, I~. Goyne offered a motion to have the entire County re-assessed,
~hich motion died for the want of a second.
On motion of R[r.Britton, seconded by Mr. Hagerman, it is~esolved that the
Treasurer of the County be and he hereby is authorized to invest two and one
half million dollars from cash on hand.
On motion of ~r.Goy~e, seconded by Mr. Hague, it is resolved that this Board
set January 18, 1958, at 2:30 p.m. as the time for the laying of a cornerstone
for the new office building and that the Executive Secretary be and he hereby
is authorized to purchase a suitable marble cornerstone at a price not to
exceed ~125.00. It was cited by the Committee charged with these arrangement
that Judge William Old would be the principal s~eaker and that the Manchester
High School Band would playfor the ceremony.
On motion of Mr. Goyne, seconded by Mr.Hagerman, it is resolved that the bill
from R.S~uart Rover and Associates in the amount of ~500.OO for a sewerage
treatmen~ study Of the ~orrissale area be and it hereby is approved for
payment.
On motion of Mr. Britton, secor~ed by Nr. Hagerman, it is resolved that the
request of the Treasurer for his salary and expenses for his d~ice during the
calendar year, 1958, be, and the same is hereby approved.
On motion of Mr.Hagerman, seconded by 14r. Britton, it is resolved that the
minutes of October 29, November 12 and November 19, 1957, and the same are
hereby approved.
On motion of Mr. Britton, seconded by Mr. Hagerman, it is r esolv ed that the
following variances be approved.
Mr. Garland A. Bosher's request for a 2-foot variance on each side of Lot 18
to allow the construction of a home 6~ feet wide on a lOO-foot lot.
~%r. Lewis T. Irving's request for a variance of 2 feet in the construction
of a garden house on the rear of his property at 1715 Stratford Road.
The request of Mr.F.C.Chalkley for approval to convert a garage into an
apartment building in the rear of his property on the Old Broad 5ock Road,
provided the Health Department approved the sanitation facilities.
And be it further resolved~ that the request of Mr.I.C.BRugh to construct
a house on a ~5-foot lot on Belt Boulevard be and it hereby is denied.
On motion of Mr.Hagerman, ~conded by Mr.~ritton,~$t is resolved that a
variance for Mr..Claude R. Rochel~ residing on ~xver Road to construct a
garage additdon & feet of his side property line, be, and it hereby is granted

or add to the old store house which is presently constructed within ? feet

variance be given to Mr. Alfred ~. ~4aner, owner of Lot 9, Block A, Chippenham
Road'to allow the construction of a garage within 8 feet of his aide property
line. It is here noted that the~BUilding Inspector be and he here~y is
requested to write a letter tO ~'~r.J.S.Stephens°n, Builder, informing him
that before ~ building is started in the ~uture, a check shnuld be made as to
the County Ordinance governing side line setbacks.
