approved:
of Mr.Britton, seconded by Mr.Driskill, the following variances are
1. A variance to M~.~G.R. Barclay, 104 Montauk Drive, Cherokee Hills,
to allow the construction of a garaKe within 7 feet of his rear
lot line and 7 feet of his side lot line. The adjoining property
owner consents to this variance.
2. A variance to Mr. William W. James, HMC, USN, to allow the
adjustment of a building line between Lots 8 and 9, Block F,
Section A, of Wilkinson Terrace, in a manner that will permit
him to move his proposed dwelling to within 30 feet of the
Sherman Court turn-around.
It is here noted that Mr.J.M.Wilkinson, Subdivider, approved
this change.
3. A variance to Mr.A.C. Green, operatin~ a~ Clinton ~onstruction
Company, Inc., to allow the construction of a dwelling on Lot 3,
Block E, Section A, of Woodmont Subdivision, the rear corners
~of which willnot be less than 17-1/2 feet from the side property
line.
It is here noted that the developers give their approval in writing.
4. A variance to Mr. A.S.Robertson, to allow the construction of a
house on Lot 3, Block E, Windsorview Subdivision, to come within
lO feet of the adjoining property line.

5. A variance to ~4r. F.S.Fitzhugh, to 6onstruct a garage on Lot 6,
~Block E, Winduorview Subdivision, within l0 feet of the adjoining
lot ~ine.
On motion of Mr. Goyne, seconded by Mr. Driskill, it is resolved that this
Board deny the request of Mr. G.K. Teachey, for the refund of $9.00 for a
building permit procured in February of 1956.
This dav Mr.J. Justin Moore, representing the Virginia Electric & Power
Company~ came before the Board requesting that no raise in Personal Property
would result in gross inequities to the Virginia Electric & P~er Company;
that such a tax would propose certain questions to the administration that
would be difficult to answer, and that the Virginia Electric & Power Company
now pays approximately 1~% of the taxes in the County and should not be
imposed on further.
Came also, Mr.S.T.Wagstaff, who pleaded for economy in the County Government
saying that wages were coming down.
Came also, Mr. W.N.Duncan who stated that his salary was less this y~ar than
last year.
This day the County budget for the year 1958-'~9 in the amount of $10,329,335.(
which w~s tentatively adopted on April 25, 1958, and uly advertised by
publication in the Richmond News Leader, a newspaper having general circulatioz
in Chesterfield County, for a pe~od of thirty (30) days preceding the date
of adoption thereof came up for consideration of this Board, and after
discussion and due consideration, upon motion of Mr.Dris~ill, seconded by Mr.
Britton, it is resolved that the Chesterfield County tentative budget
for the year 1958-'59, including all various departments of the County, be,~
and the same is hereby aoproved and adopted as the budget for the year 1958-'5~
Whereas, in ac~rdance with law of this Commonwealth, the proposal to fix
levies requ~ed by the budget for the year 1958-'59 has been made public, and
Whereas, this day was fi~ed for a public hearinE on same, and due notice
as required by law having been published that this matter would be considered
and acted upon,
Now, Therefore, Be it Resolved, on motion of Mr.Britton, seconded by Mr.
Driskill, that the l~vy for Ger~ral County purposes (including the School
budget) on each $100.00 of assessed valuation on real and personal property
for the year 1958-'59, be, and the same is fixed as follows: All magisterial
districts, $2.40 real estate tax; $2.70 on Personal Property and rates for
machinery in all districts 50¢, per $100.O0 of assessed valuation.
There is hereby levied $1.00 capitation tax on all residents of the Cbmnty
21 years of a~e or over.
And be it further resolved, that all revenue produced by such levies shall be
paid into the General Operating Fund of the County and appropriations therefrom
shall be made by this Board from time to time depending upon the n$cessity
thereof as determined by this Board during the ensuing fiscal year.
On motion of ~r. Goyne, seconded~by Mr. Driskill, it is resolved that this Board
accept the Fire Comm~tee report, which is as follows:
1. That bids be received for two truck chassis.
2. That bids be received for two fire truc~s, one for Chester
and one for Matoaca.
3.That the old power wagon formerly used by Mr.A,J. Horner be
put into the Chester Volunteer Fire Department.
4.The Executive Secretary be authorized to sell the three old
trucks as soon as they have been replaced.

On motion of Mr.Britton, seconded by Mr.Hague, it is resolved that this Board
horize the Treasurer of the County to make refunds on ~rroneous assessments
as follows:

This day the County Road Engineer in accordance with directions from this Board
made report in writing upon his examination of Debora Drive, in the subdivision
of April Acres, M~chester M~gisterial District, which report shows that in the
opinion of the COunty Road Engineer it is expedient that said road be establishe
as a public road.
And be it further resolved that the Virginia Department of Highways be and it

This day the Executive Secretary reported that he had received several proposals
hy Auditors to audit the records of the County of Chesterfield for 1957-'58,
and that on the baais of the proposal received he recommended the auditing firm
~f Murray BILane, Upon consideration whereof, and on motion of Mt.Hague,
by Mr.Britton, it is resolved that this Board employ the firm of Murray B.
to audit the County's books for 1957-'58-
On motion, the meeting is adjourned until 7:30 p.m. on June 3, 1958.
