The Resident Engineer, Mr.R.V.Lancaster, III, ~resented estimates on the constru ction of Jackson Street off Route #l, northwardly from the Rivermont Road, between the Presbyterian and Methodist Churches, which report is ordered filed with the Board's papers. Whereas, a toll road has been constructed in the County of Chesterfield, generally psralleling Route #l, and Whereas, there will be ~onsiderable interchange of traffic between Route #l and the adjacent area with said toll road, and Whereas, the Highway Deoartment has sought to channel much of the traffic through Chester across Route #l to the toll road. N~w, Therefore, Be it Resolved, on motion of Mr. Goyne, seconded by Mr. Hague. that this Board requests a?~ain the Highway Department to consider the installa- tion of "Stop and Go" lights at the intersection of Routes lO and l, so that th~ present hazardous condition, which no doubt will be greatly increased by the flow of traffic to the toll road, will be minimized. On motion of ~r. Hagerman, seconde~ by ~h~.Hague, it is resolved that a letter signed by numerous citizens of Oakland Avenue requesting street lights be ferred to the Light Committee. This day t he Executive Secretary read a r~.port from the Department of l'Yelfare and ~nstitutions citing the fact that the County lock-up was in satisfactory condition. This day a report was read from the Virginia Division of Forestry which report is received and filed. On motion of ~h~.Hague, seconded by Mr. Goyne, it is resolwed that the sum of $t00.00 be given to the Welfare Deoartment to aid in the sending of foster children to summer camp. On motion of ~ir. Hague, seconded by Mr. Hagerman, it is resolved that this Board a~thorize the extra expenditure in the new office building of putting in the ~ourt room a public address system for a price of approximately $885.00 and for the installation of roof lights to light the parking area for the price of $275.00. On motion of ~.Hagerman, seconded by ~.Goyne, it is resolved that this Board grant Mr. Leslie Eanes a variance to allow the division of a lot so that a house can be constructed to face Lee S~reet in Ettrick, provided the house is placed in line with existing houses. On motion of ~.Goyne,seconded by Mr. Hagerman, it is resolved that a variance begranted to Mr. Harold Styles, to allow the construction of a house on 14,~10 ~quare feet on a parcel of land formerly known as the J.W.Fers Estate, facing the Harrowgate Road. This day the matter of accepting the water system installed by W.P.Leonard in his subdivision known as Pocoshock Heigh~s~ came before the Board, and it was pointed out that over the course of past months various charges have been experienced, some of which may be payable by the County Water Department and som~ b~ the subdivider, and it was generally agreed that the County Engineer and the Executive Secretary meet with Mr.Leon~'d and negotiate the best possible solutio~ On motion of ~.Hagerman, s ecorfled by Mr. Hague, it is resolved that a standard sewer contract concerning the installation of sewerage in Windsorview Subdivisior owned by Mt. Hagerman, it is r esoleed that this Board commend the County EnEineer and all employees of the Water Department who worked on the repair of the Elkhardt water tank on June 5 and 6th, and expresses its deep appreciation for their untiring efforts in safely completing a troublesome job efficiently and effectively. This day the Building Inspector presented to the Board a copy of a proposed Plumbing Code and said Code was ordered ~eived for further study. On motionof Mr.Hagerman, seconded by ~.
