This day the matter of signing of the revised contract with the City of Peters- burg for the treatment of sewerage of the Ettrick Sanitary District came before the Board. Upon considerat, ion whereof and on motion of Dr. Gill, seconded by Mr. Gunter, it is resolved that the Chairman of the Board and the Clerk of this Board be and they are hereby are authorized to sign the revised contract formally approved by this Board on August 5, 1955. This day tlr. John Horton, acting as spokesman for approximately 50 citizens of the Southampton area cities the present, status of the proposed water improvements and the possibilities as to method~ of financing. Dr. Herren stated very definitely that the citizens from that area favored a Water Authority and cited reasons why , in his opinion, that-this would be the better method of financing. After a lengthy disct~ssion, it was generally agreed that the Board would do its best to resolve its apparent deadlock and proceed with a defit~ite course of action-as soon as possilbe. This day the Board of Supervisors proposed the rezoning from Agriculture to Residential-2 of the following descmibed parcel of land: In Bermuda Magisterial District, a parcel of land bounded on the East by the Seaboard Airline Railroad, on the North by Kingsland G~eek, on the ~est by the business zone on the East side of Rt. 1, and on the South by the Residential-~ zone on the North side of Willis Road. There appeared a delegation of 57 people presenting a petition signed by some 260 people, and bein~ represented by Mr. L. A. Belcher, Attorney, proposing t~e rezoning. Came also Mr. Fred Gray, ~epre~enting the Southern.Materials Corpo~a- rico, and Mr. L. R. Goyn., stating that the land was low and marshy next to the creek and not suitable for residential purpose~. Mr. Gray stated that it was not the American custom to rezone land against the owner's wish-es.- On motion of Mr. ¢~yne, seconded by Dr. Gill,it is resolved that the aforedescrib- ed parcel of land be and it hereby is rezoned to Residential-2 as requested. This day Mr. 0. K. Brooke came before the Board requesting the rezoning from Agriculture to General Business of the following described parcel of land: In Manchester Magisterial District, a parcel of land fronting approximately 830 feet on Rt. 10 and 630 feet on Belmont Road, said parcel boin~ the triangle of aporoximately 4 acres formed by the intersection of said two roads. Mr. Brooke cited the fact that the Gulf 0il Company proposed to build an excep- tionally fine filling station on said parcel of land. Game also Mr. John Purcell, presenting a petition notorized by most of the property owners in the area opposing the proposed rezoning. Game also Mr. Joe Barro~,, representing the Belmont Methodist Church, opposing the requested zoning. Whereupon Mr. }trooke requested some delay in the proceedings to allow the Plan~ling Commission to study the situation and make some recommendations. Upon further consideration, Mr. Britton made the following motion: That this Board deny the request without prejudice, which motion died for the want of a second.
