The Executive Secretary presented a report from the County Assessor stating that
the total assessed value of property for the first quarter of 1957 was
$227,223.00, which report was ordered received and filed.
A letter from the ~ague of Virginia Counties was presented citing the fact
that on ~ednesday, April 24, 1957, at 10:00 a.m. there would be a hearing on
retirement benefits and coverage under the Virginia Compensation ACt for
employees of the County and Commonwealth, and it was ordered that this report
be received and filed, and the Executi~e Secre~aFy was requested to attend this
meeting.
This day the Commonwalth~s Attorney presented a notice from the State Corporation
Commission statin~ that a hearing would be held on an application of the ~ilson
Trucking Company for a common carrier franchise Over certain routes in the
County, which report was ordered received and filed.
This day the matter of Rural R~ds was discussed and a tentative list of rural
roads for the coming year was suggested.
On motion of Hr.Britton, seconded by Hr. Hague, it is resolved that the Treasurez
of the County be and he hereby is requested to transfer $20,000,00 from the
General Fund of the County to the Road Fund of the County as set out in the
19~6-'57 budget.
On motion of Hrl Hague, seconded by Mr. Goyne, it is resolved that the Treasurer
of the County of Chesterfield be and he hereby is requested to transfer
$3~00.00 from the unappropriated surplus of the General Fund to 18-199e-
Jamestown Celebration to prombte the general welfare and development of the
County.
On motion of Hr. Goyne, seconded by Mr, Driskill, it is resolved that the
Treasurer of the County of Chesterfield be and he hereby is reques~d to
transfer $750,00 from the unappropriated surplus of the General Fund to
Item 10a-l~9, Care of Uumping Ground.
On motion of Mr. Hague, seconded by Hr. Driski11, £% is resolved that the
Treasurer of the County of Chesterfield be and ~e here~y is requested to
transfer $4000,00 from the unappropriated surplus of the County's General
Fund to item 6o-229-Board of Prisoners.
The Committee on Chesterfieldes participation in t~w J~,mestown celebration,
headed by Hr.H.T.Goyne, made a report and briefly reviewed ~e booklet
describing the history of Chesterfield, ~hich bookZet is robe published within
the next few weeks, and it was suggested that the Committee make a tour of
Jamestown and report any projects the County may be able to promote.
The petition of certain fee simple owners of lots in the subdivision of
"P~an of Cosby~s La~e, Chesterfield County, Vir~inia", to vacate
subdivision plat as to lots, streets, etc. was filed this day by John ~. Keith,
their Attorney.
Upon~considerati~n whereof, and on motion of Hr. Hague, seconded by Hr. Britton,
Be it Resolved:
That this matter willbe continued to ~ay 1~, 1957, at 10:00 o~clock a.m. for
final disposition, and it is further ordere~ that the petitioners in this
matter do cause a copy of the petition and supporting exhibits tobe served
on Mrs. ~illiam L. Smith, 4~18 Sylvan Road, Richmond, Virginia, and have return
thereof made at least five days prior to May 1~, 1~57, notifying her that the
Board of Supervisors will consider th~ petition to vacate ~id subdivision
on May 14, 1957 at 10:00 o'clock a.mo
On motion of Nr.Oriski11, seconded by Hr. Britton, it is resolved that this
Board go into ~xecut~ve Session.
Reconvening:
On motion of Mr.Oris~ill, seconded by Fa". Goyne,it is resolved that the followin
statement be sent to the Bhe~terfield County School 5card in answer to their
request for re-consideration of the 1957-'58 School Budget.
On motion of ~4r. Driskill, seconded by Hr. Goyne, it is resolved ~hat after
long and serious deliberation it has been determined by this Board of Sut
thai; /;he reduc/;lon of $271.250t00 from the proposed School Board budget of
~5,129,443.18 will n~t impair the efficiency of schools in Ghesterfield County.
On motion, the meeting is adjourned to April 29, 1957, at 9:00 a.m.
