Supervisors of Chesterfield County,
held at the Courthouse on September
25, at 8:00 p.m.

This day the Executive Secretary read the resignation of ~'[r. Frank Landrum
which as accepted by the Board with regret.
This being a call meeting of the Board for the purpose of interviewing appli-
cants for Mr. Landrum's job and possible other business, upon consideration
whereof and on motion of Mr. Gunter, seconded by Dr. Gil]~ it is resolved that
this Board adjourn temporarily to meet as a Water Committee to hear the
various a~plicants for the bookkeeping position in the Water Depart~nt.
Having heard the applicants for this Utility job, the VYater Co:mnittee recommends
Mr. Chas. Quaiff for this position.
Upon consideration whereof and on motion of Mr. R.J. Britto~, seconded by
l~[r. J. P. Gunter, it is resolved that this Board accept the recommendations
of ~he Water Co~nittee.
This day ~[r. ~. Yin~eney Sowers aad Miss Lena Warwick were present presenting
their views on the :a~tter of having a land-fill operation in the vicinity o£
Hickory Hill School,and preseated also a resolution from the Hickory Hill
Community and improvement League citing the feelings in this matter.
Upon consideration whereof ~d on motion of ~[r. Britton, seconded by
Hague, it is resolved that we highly co~mnend this group for its civic interests
and receive this report.
On motion of Mr. ~ritton, seconded by ~4r. Goyne, it is resolved that this Board
offer as much as ;~2~0.00 for a total right-of-way of 60 feet from the Railroad
Bridge across the ACL trac!;s to Bell's Road in the vicinity of Hickory Hill
School..
This day r~r. Harry J. Moody appeared ~efore the Board complaining that he was
living on a water line that stopped at his house which fact caused him to have
stagnant water f~'equentiy.
Upon consideration whereof and on motion of Mr. Gunter, seconded by ~[r.
Goyne, it is resolved that the Utility Department be directed to lay 250 feet
of 2" pipe to c~nnect up this dead end to Percival Street in the Village of
Chester.
This day the Executive Secretary presented certain recommendations concerning
the future !.~iicies ~o be followed in the matter of proposed extensions to the
water system.

Co~mnittee ~d the Water Co~mnittee will meet on September 29th, at 8:00 p.m.
to £urther consider this matter.
This day Mr. Geo. Moore, Jr., came bef.ore the Board with bids on an adding
machine.
Upon consideration whereof and on motion of Mr. Goyne, seconded by ~lr.
Hague, it is resolved that a Burroughs Adding machine be purchased by the
Executive Secretary.
On motion of ~[r. Britton, seconded by l'~[r. Goyne, it resolved t?mt a Friden
Calculator be purchased for the Treasurer's Offdce.
This day l~r. Geo. W. ~4oore, Jr., presented a bill for ;~16~.50 from the ~. B.
Augustine Insura~ce Agency being the difference in the bond carried' for ~r.
Dance, former Treasurer of Chesterfield Oounty and the one obtained for the
in-coming Treasurer, arid it is generally agreed that the Executive Secretary
be and he hereby is directed to investigate the accuracy of this bill.
This day ~ir. Geo. W. ~ioore, Jr., advised the Board it may be necessary to secure
additional i~unds in the General Fund of the County for a short period of time.
Upon consideration whereof and on motion of l~Ir. Hague, seconded by ~r.
Gunter~ it is resolved that ~[r. I,'Ioore be and he hereby is authorized to trans£cr
up to $50,000.00 from the Utility Construction Fund to the General Fund of the
County.
This day the Executive Secretary read a letter from the State Compensation Board
addressed to l~ir. Harold ~'~alk~r, approving the sum of ~?.O0 to cover the transfer
oI' bond from the former Co~mnissioner of t{evenue to the in-coming Commissioner
of l{evenue.
On motion of Mr. Hague, seconded by Mr. Gunter, it is resolved that the
Board of Supervisors approve this action.
This day the Executive Secretary presented to the Board a plat of roads in Lhe
"Lyndale" Subdivision, said pla~ being drawn by W. W. LaPrade & Bros., Surveyors,
showing only the road and not the lot lines.
Upon consideration whereof and on motion of Dr. Gill, seconded by ~r. Hague,
it is resolved that this matter be referred to ~..~. Cogbill, Co~mnonwealth's
Attorney, i'or his ruling on the legality of such a ~lat being recorded.
This day ~kr.H.T. Goyne, advised the Board that ~r. C. H. Oliver in the Village
of Chester was seeking a Variance in the Zoning requirements as to the setback
lines on the side yard.
Upon consideration whereof and on motion of ~r. Goyne, seconded by ~r. Habitue,
it is resolved that due to extenuating circumstances in Lhis case that ~r. Oliver
be granted a p,ermit to construct a cinder block garage 3-feet from his existing
side lines.
It is, on ~otion resolved, that Lhis meeting be aUjourned until September
29th, at 8:00 p.m.
