the Board of Supervisors of
Chesterfield County, held
at the Courthouse on
December 17, 1952, ab 8:00

This day the Board met with the members of the newly ap~.ointed Planning Com-
mission and discussed the problem of organization and procedure for this Com-
mission. There appeared ~[r. i{ichard Kraft of the Division of Planning and
Economic Development of Lhe State of Virginia, who spoke briefly to the Plan-
ning Oommiss]on about t~e duties, responsibilities, etc.
This day the Executive Secretary advised the Board that ]~. J. V. Colston had
resigned as of Decemoer 31, 1952, and it was agreed that his resignation be
acce~ed with regret.
un motion of i~. Gunter, seconded by ,~. Hague, it is resolved that from the
information now available that this Board accept again the bid of I~r. Leo Myers,
re~.~resenting the Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company to insure all County
vehicles except those belonging to the School Board.
This day the Executive Secretary presented a further request from t~r. Lewis H.
Vaden, Clerk, Circuit Court of Chesterfield Oounty, for improvement in the
rapidly filling Grantor-Grantee Index, and the Board was advised that the State
Compensation Board had tentatively agreed to pay one-third of the labor involved
in making said improvements.
Upon consideration whereo£ and on motion of r~r. Gunter, seconded by ~'~r.
Go]me,it is resolved that this Board authorize Mrs. ~iay and others to expand the
present Grantor-Grantee Index, putting two new books on each system and ne~key
sheets, new tab sheets, new canvas covers and recopying names by typewriter at
approximately $5400.00 cost to the County, provided the State Compensation Board
approves the pavement of one-third of the labor cost by the State.
This day the Executive Secretary presented a request from the William Todd
Company requesting this Board to again allow said Company to £urnish to the
County Police Department for its distribution, the Kemper-Thomas Safety
calendar for the year 1W54.
Upon consideration whereof and on motion of ~'~r. Goyne, seconded by Dr. Gill,
it is resolved that this matter be tabled for further consideration.
This day the Executive Secretary advised the Board of the decisions reached
by other municipalities in the matter of driving ~hrough stop lights and stop
signs by Police cars and fire trucks.
Upon consideration whereof and on motion of ~r. Hague, seconded by ~r. Go]me,
it is resolved that this Board issue orders to its Chief of Police and ell fire
companies that all County vehicles observe all traffic laws at all times.
On motion, the meeting is adjourned until 10:00 a.m. January 13, 1953.
