This day Mr. James T. Rose came before the Board citing the fact that the office
of County Assessor could function much more efficiently if a secretary were hired
to do the necessary inside office work, allowing the Assessor to spend more time
actually making assessments. Upon consideration whereof and on motion of Mr.
Gunter, seconded by Br. Gill, it is resolved that the Executive Secretary be and
he hereby is authorized to pruchase a desk, typewriter and a calculating machine,
if necessary, and to employ a secretary for the County Assessor.
On motion of Mr. Hague, seconded by Mr. Gunter, it is resolved that the County ·
will reimburse any ~lected County official or deputy, or appointed County official
who attends the Local Goverment Officials~ Conference at Charlottesville for
expenses not to exceed $25.00 per person.
This day the Executive Secret~,ry presented three (3) bids which had been obtained
to law, for fire trucks for Enon and Forest View Hts., and whereas, Mr. Luther P.
Dyer came !)efore the ~oard and expressed the feelings of the Forest View Fire
Department, saying that the entire Department wanted an Oren truck; ypon conside-
ration whereof and on motion of Mr. Britton, seconded by Mr. Gunter, it is resolved
that this Board purchase an Oren truck ~s per specifications submitted for the
Forest Vi~w Fire Department.
It is generally ai~reed that the consideration of the bids for the truck for the
Enon Volunteer Fire Department will be postponed ~,ntil the next regular meeting
of the Board.
Om motion of Dr. Gill, seconded by Mr. Hague, it is resolved that the County
Engineer be and he hereby is requested to make a set of specifications to be
approved by the Board of Supervisors for a survey to study the Ettrick Sewerage
system, the need for a treatment plant, the size, etc.
This day the Ettrick Sanitary District Committee came before the Board recommend-
ing that a root cutter to clean the sewers in the Ettric~ Sanitary District of "
Ettrick, be purchased. On motion of Dr. Gill, seconded by ~lr. Gunter, it is res-
olved that the Emecutive Secretary be and he hereby is re,{uested to purchase a
4" manually operated root cutter with necessary attachments.
It was generally agreed that the Acting Commonwealth's Attorney would submit to
the Bo~rd a ruling on Hi~hwa parking, along through streets in the County.
On motion of Or. Gill, seconded by ~ur. Gunter, it is resolved that the Acting
Commonwealth's Attorney be requested to draw up the new contract, s to include a
$2.00 minimum rate for the pro-!~osed sewer lines to be installed in the alley which
is the easteru boundary line of Ettrick, and it will s~rve the houses on the west
side of Loyal Street, said contr~ets to include the necessary easements for conn-
ecting to the County sewer and all should be subject to the }~oard~s approval, at'
the next [;card meeting.
This day a deleg ti~n appeared to discuss the status of Orange Hill Avenue and
Ho!')kins Street in the Village of Ettrick. Upon consideration whereof and on
motion of Dr. Gill, seconded by ~lr. Gunter, it is resolved that the Executive
Secretary be and he hereby is requested, ypon the receipt of $354.80 plus $75.00
which is one-half of the cost of i~uproving }{oDkins Street, from the citisens of
Orange Hill Aveuue and Hopkins Street to contact the Highway Department to improve
said street at an amount not to ex~eed $275.00, charging same to tho 3¢ *toad Fund
of the County.
And be it further resolved that the Executive Secretary, working with Dr. Gill,
Supervisor of ~latoaca District, seek to negotiate t!~e best possibel settlement of
the original contract make by the citizens of the ~rea with Mr. Edwards, Road
contractor of P. etePsburg.
This day the Executive Secretary presented several bids for paint to be used on
the buildin~.s on the Courthouse grounds. Upo,n consideration whereof and on
motion of ~lr. Gunter, seconded by l)r. Gill, it is resolved that the Executive
Secr'etary be and he hereby is requeste~ to purchase Pittsburgh paint at $4.3~ per
gallon from the ~awrence Cor~)oralion in Petersburg.
It is here noted that ~\ir. Britton Voted "No".

Secl'etary be and he hereby is authorized to pay to the League of Virginia 0ountie
$202.00 for the 0ounty~s share in the League's opposing the proposed rate increas
for telephones.
Write usual resolution for takin~I into the Secondary ~ystem Logan mtreet in Ben
Air.
On motion of Mr. Hague, seconded by Dr. Gill, it is resloved that the Executive
Secretary be and he hereby is authorized to have the necessary repairs made to
the heatin~ plant at Camp Baker, the heating, plant in the A~ricultural Building
and to replace certain heating and water pipes at the Courthouse.
On motion of Dr. Gill, seconded by Mr. t3ritton, it is resolved tha~ the ~ounty
En~ineer , Mr. George D. ShroDshire, ~r. be and hereby is authorized to sign
Highway permit applications for the Water Department to install pipe lines in
ri~hts-of-way of the ~tate I[ighw~ty System.
On motion of ~r. Gunter, seconded by Dr. Gill, it is resolved that firm bids be
secured on a steelox building, by the next meeting of the ~oard, which building
is proposed to house the Water Department at the Courthouse.
0n motion of ~Ir. l%ritton, seconded by Mr. Hague, it is resolved that the
Acting ~ommonwea]th~s Attor~]~y be allowed to have installed an extension of the
telephone from thc Oommonu-ealth's ~ttorney office to his office over the ~elfare
]½ut ldi ng.
