reaainder to be paid by the Stat e, and the Board approving the same, the report is

This day, Mr.O.B.Gates, Sheriff, submitted to the Board his report for the month
of December, 1950, showing expenses incurred in that office in the amount of
$980.82, of which the County pays one-third or $326.94, the remainder to be paid

This day reprêsentatives of the Bensley Volunteer Fire De¡:e.rtment and the Bon-Air I
Southampton Volunteer Fire Department came before the Board and requested this Boar~
to supply the new trucks being purchased by this Board fl%" the respective departmen~s
withthe following equipment: John H. Bean fighting unit; a siren large enough
to be effective with a red blinker light in front of the siren, a revolving red lig t
lJlounted on top of the cab in the center, red blinker light mounted on each side of
the revolving light, one red blinker light mounted on the rear of the equipment, I·
spot light mounted on the front and one on the rear, a th:ÏI'ty foot woo:ien extension
ladder and Ii 15 foot roof ladder, .all as is expressed in a letter to this Board of I

And be it further resolved that the Executive Secretary be and he hereby is
authorized a nd directed to work out the details for the purchase of the above
equipment for the respective fire departments.

This day a delegation from Thorndale Lane in the "Oakhurst Subdivision" came
before the Board, requesting this Bœrd to take some a ction concerning conditions
of said Thorndale Lane. Upon consideration whereof and on motion, it is
resolved thfit the Executive Secretary be and he heregy is directed to request, in
writing, r-1r. Z. P. Richardson, t<x>ring Thorndale Lane up to the specifications
requ.ired by this Board and maintain said road until July 1, at which time this Boarq
will request the Virginia Departmen t of Highways to tJke s aid roo d into the said
system of highways.
This day a delegation from Grindall Creek Park came before the Board and complained
about the condition of the drainage in that area. Upon consideration whereof, and
on motion, it is resolved that lVIr.Burnett, Executive Secreta;'y, liir.C.F .Kellam,
Resident Engineer, and IVJr. Chase, Developer of this area, be, and they are appointeq
as a Committee to investigate the condition there and see what action can be taken,'
including an arrangement with the City concerning the sewerage there.
This day Nr.Taylor who lives on Taylor Road, which leads east from Dorset Road,
near Branch's Church came before the Board and request this Boor d to change the
right-of-way in that arsa so tha t the Highway Department might construct the said
Taylor Road.
Upon consideration whereof, and on motion, it is resolved that the Executive Secretary
be and he hereby isauthorized and directed to employ Mr. LaPrade, County Surveyor,
to make a survey of that area, particulafly, the Taylor Road, to determine what
right-of-way now exists and what would be necessary for t he proper roadway.
This day Mr. Lyttle of Lyttle & Barnes, who own and operate a plant on the southerly
side of the Belt Blvd.just westerly of t he Hopkins Rea d in this CountYi and suggest~d
to this Board that he would be willing to dig a ditch from the norther y side of
fllopton Road on the easterly side of Hopkins Road, Rt.637, southvlard1y to and a crosf¡
the Belt Boulevard, Rt. 161, thence northwesterly acroS's the Hopkins Rœ d ani along!
the southerly side of the Belt Blvd. to the property of Lyttle and Barnes, upon the ¡
