VIRGINIA: At an adjourned meeting of the'
Board of Supervisors of
Chesterfield County, held at
the Courthouse on February 20,
1951, at 8:00 p.m.
Present:
James W.Gordon, Jr.
H.T.Goyne
J.C.McKesson
Robt. O. Gill
Irvin G. Horner
Absent: J. G.Henin g
In the absence of the Chairman, it is on motion resolved that Mr. James W.
Gordon, Jr., be the Chairman for t his meeting.
This day the rra tter of improving certain roads in the Ivey Tract came before
the Board. Upon consideration whereof and on motion of Mr.H.T.Goyne, it is
resolved that a sum not to exceed $200.00 be spent on the improvement of South
Street in the said lvey tract, same to be charged to the 3¢ Road Fund.
This day again the matter of using the Millhiser quarry as a storage reservoir
in the proposed improvement of the water syst em came before the Board and on
motion of Mr.J.W.Gordon,Jr., seconded by Ivir.J.C.lv1cKesson, it is I' esolved that the
Executive Secretary be and he hereby is requested to get as many bids as possible
on cleaning out said quarry and I' eport at the next meet ing of t his Board.
And be it further resolved that the Executive Secretary be requested to keep a
watch at tœ quarry a t all times ani to keep the water pumped from t he quarry
making such tests as are possible and feasible.
This day agå n the rIB tter of purchasing water from the City 0f Richmond came
before the Board. Upon consideration \,{le:'eof and on motion of Mr.H.T.Goyne,
seconded by Dr. Robt. O.Gill, it is resolved that the Water Conunittee be and
it œ reby is requested to wait on the City of Richmond and hear any further
proposals concerning the purchase of water and related subjects. It is here
noted that Mr.J.C.McA.esson and Mr.J.W.ßordon, Jr., voted in the negative.
On motion, it is resolved that the sum of $25,000.00 be and it hereby is transferred
from the General County Fund to the Construction Fund of the Utili ties Department!.
On motion of Mr.J.C.McA.esson, seconded by ~w.H.T.Goyne, it is resolved that the
Executive Secretary be' and he hereby is directed to request the Virginia Elec§ric
and Power Company to install lights at Holly Inn on Rt.360, at the intersection
of Snead Road and Rt.360, and at the intersection of Hey Road and Rt.360.
On motion, of Mr.H.T.Goyne, seconded by Ivtr.J.C.McKes30n, it is resolved that the
Executive Secretary be and he hereby is direct~d to request the Virginia .
Department of Highways to install "Stop and Go" signal lights at the intersection
of Rts. 10 and 1, and a t the intersection ofRt~. 616 and Ill.
On motion, of liJr. Irvin G. Horner, it is eesolved that the County Road Engineer
be and he hereby is requested to view .7 of a mile of the Lacy Road, which connec~s
Rt. 727 and Rt.6~ in Clover Hill District, and report to this Bœ. I'd whether in hp.s
opinion there is a n-cessity that said rea d bee stabl ished as a public I' oad.

This day C. ¡tV. Smith, Chief, Chesterfield Police Departuent, appeared before the
Board requesting permission to employ l'-1ark viilson as a dispatcher, to fill the
vacancy created by the resignation of Wm. B. Gill, Upon consideration whereof,
and on motion, it is resolved that the aforementioned be employed as a dispatcher
at Chesterfield Courthouse in the Police Department.
This day I-tr. I'Ietzger and Mr. Lordley, Director and Assistant Director of the
Utility Department, City of Richmond, along with .ir. Vlarren C. Perrow and 1']1'.
Austin Brock en brough, ConsultingEngineers, a ppeared before the board and di scussed
in great detail the problems :involved and uther considerations in obtaining water
from the City of Richmond, the Granite ~uarry and the various v¡ells in the County.
Upon du e consideration and on motion, the Executive Secretary be and he hereby is
directed to get bids as soon as possible on theconstruction of a 750,OOO-.~allon
storage tank for th e County.
On motion, the Illeeting is adjourned until 10:00 a.m. Tuesday,
March 13, 1951.
