The Executive Secretary read a report from ldr. A. L.Smith, Forest Fire Warden, on his activities during the month of ~pril, 1944. This day, R. F. Jones, Colored County Agent, appeared before the Board, stating that as of July l, 1944, his services with Henrico County would be discontinued and that his salary of approximately $25.60 per month received from them would be cut off, and stated that he would then have the opportunity of spending his entire time in Chesterfield County, and requested that additional salary ~e given to him from Chesterfield. Upon consideration whereof, and on motion of H1 T GoYne, it is resolved that the salary of R. F. Jones, Colored County Agent, he a~d it hereby is increased by $120.00 per year, effective July l, 1944. This day the Common~,' alth's ~,ttorney read to the Board a letter addressed to him from the Hon. ~bram P. Staples, %ttorney General, regarding compensation from the State Rtghvay Department for services rendered in connection with condemnation proceedir~s on Rt. 653, stating that it was altogether within the law for the Board of Supervisor~ to make this payment to the Commonwealth's Attor~ Mr. Cogbill stated that he would not accept this paymant from the Board of Supervisors and requested that this letter be filed with the records of the Board with a notation thereon that the amount was refused by him. This day again the BuAget for 1944-'45 which was tentatively adopted on ~prtl 11, 1944, and which has been advertised in accordance with law, was a gain considered, and it is resolved, on motion of H. T. Goyne, that the budget, including the ~ budget of the DePartment of Public ~elfare and the School Budget, be and the same is hereby approved and ado~pted as the budget for the year 19 44 -'45. ,,bereas, in accordance ~th law the proposal tc adopt &and fix levies required by the budget for the year 1944'45 has been made public accordiz~ to law, and ,~hereas, this day was fixed for the public hearing of same, Now, Therefore, on motion of H. This day the Executive Secretary presented s report from the Virginia highway Com~nission relative to allocations for secondary highways for 19~4-'~5, and the report is received and filed. Heni.~", v~ho was absent from the meeting, requesting him to bring to the Board's attention the condition of Rt. 619, from kt. l0 to 1,,~adowville, stating thet he hod ~,~ceived numerous complaints abou~ the condition of this road.
