This day, Geo. W. Moore, Jr., Commissioner of Revenue, submitted to
report of expenses incurred in the operation and maintenance of his

This day, E. S. H. Greene, Supt. of Sclools, came beforo this BOard and explained
that one of the school busses was in such condition that it would be impractical
to repair same; that in view of that fact the School Board had purohased a new
school bus in the amount of $725.00 and had directed him as Clerk to theBoard
to request this Board to app~riate to the County School Fund an amount
sufficient to pay for said school bus, to-wit-$725.00.

Upon consideration whereof, and on motion of J. G. Hening, it is resolved that thel!
purchase of the new school bus for the School Board be and the same is hereby
approved. And be it further resolved that the sum of $725.00 cost of said bus I
be and the same is hereby appropriated from theGeneral Fund to the General School I
Fund, to be disbursed by the School Board in payment of the purcm se of the school!

This day there was presented to this Board a letter from Hon. James H. Price, !
Governor of Virginia, requesting the collaboration of this Board in the reduction I
in speed limit of pUblioly owned and operated automobiles.
Ani whereas it appears that this Board OWIU'iI only one truck but does furnish I
mileage to certain employees of the County for use of their cars in pUblio I
service; u~on consideration of all of which, and on motion of H. T. Uoyne, it is !
resolved that the operator of such truck of the County of Chesterfield, be, and
he is hereby directed to confine the operation of said truok to a maximum speed
of 35 miles per hour. .And be it further resolved that all Heads of Departments
and all employees of the County operating their personally owned automobiles
in pUblic service and receiving mile886 or expenses for said operation, be, and
they are hereby requested to operate said automobiles at a maximum speed of not
more than 45 miles per hour, except those automobiles used in police dutyor on
emergency calls.
It is ordered that e copy of this resolution be certified to all Heads of
Departments and employees operating independently of theDepartment Heads.

I.here is crosses Rt. #360. Upon considerat ion whereof and on motion of
J.G. Hening, the ~X8outive Secretary is directed to proceed in the procu~ing
of right-ot-way for said construction.
Onmotionof T.D. Watkins, it is resolved that the Chief of Police, C. W. Smith,
be, and he hereby is requested to make a study of traffic conditions through
the Village of Midlothian, wherein complaint has has been made that a "speed
trap"is operated, and to report his findin@s to this Board.

Whereas, the City of Richmond has filed its petition and given notice under the I
Statute of its intention to seek the annexation of certain territory in the countr
of Chesterfield to said City; I

This day the Board received the report of the Buildings and Grounds Committe..
in the matter of office space for the District Office of the Soil Conservation
6efvice, and on motion of J. G. Hening, the report is accepted, and the District
Office of the Soil Conservation will occupy the two west rooms in the new building,
when completed.
On motionof T. D. Watkins, it is resolved that the sum of $400.00 be anc the same
is hereby appropriated from theGeneral Fund's Unexpended Balance to the Regional
Defense Council, and the Executive Secretary is directed to ffiake and forward his
check for same.
On motion of W. ~. Horner, the Resident Engineer, P. W. Snead, of the Virginia
Department of Highways is requested to improve ana make proper approaches to the
main entrance of the Fair Grounds.
This day a letter was read by the Executive Secretary from the Virginia Department
of Highways together with blueprint sketches showing the roads leading to schools
in Chesterfield County, approved for addition to the Secondary System. On
motion. the letter and blue-prints are ordered to be received and filed.

This day, James S. Stanley, Chairman of the Chesterfield Branch of the American
Red Cross, came before the Board and presented a letter, which set out that due
to the reduced budget of the vie!fare Department it would probably be necessary
for theRed Cross to expend a larger sum for civilian heeds to take care of those
services curtailed by the iielfare Board, and requested the Board in case. of 'such
expenditures by the Red Cross to permit itself reimburse the Red Cross for such
expenditures. Upon consideration whereof and on motion of J.G. Hening, the
letter and request is reoeived and filed.

This day the E.xecutive Secretary read a letter from J. C. Morris, with check attac~ed
in the amount of $50.00 requesting that the County have Piedmont Avenue from Rt. I
618 to s.pruce street, south of Enon School of Rt. 10 in Bermuda District, shaped I
up and graveled, and granted permission for the gravel to be obtained from the
pit owned by him. On motion of H. T. Goyne, it is resolved that the Virginia I
Department of Highways be and it hereby is requested to expend an amount not to
exceed $175.00, inclusive of the f50.OO donated by Mr. Morris on the improvement
of this road, and the balance of i125.00 to be paid from the 38t. road levy.
And be it further reso+ved that the YlI.ll!"ginia Department of Hig.hways be and it
hereby is requested to take this road into the State Secondary System after
July 1, of next year.

Avenue in Bermuda District, near Stop 51, a distance of approximately .2 of a mile

cottages at Camp Baker. And be it further resolved that theExecutive Secretary

for the windows at Camp Baker and make report to this Board.

Vihereas, E. J. Gorman, Game Warden, appointed about the beginning of the present i
calendar year, has put his untiring efforts and attention to his duty and same is I
shown in the purchase of dog licenses in this County not heretofore reached, and i
v/hereas, it appears that his gross compensation considered in the light of the I
vast number of miles ne~essary for him to travel in and about his work is inadequate,
Now, Therefore, on motion of W. A. Horner, it is resolved that the County's I
contribution to the salary and expenses of the Game Warden be and the same is I
hereby increased by the sum of $10.00 per month, effeotive September 1, 1941. I'
And be it further resolved that the County budget {or the year 1941-'42 be and the
same is hereby amended to show the increase in this compensation. It is ordered
that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Department of Game and Inland I
Fisheries, Richmond, Virginia. !
