Community League. addressed to the Honorable J.Garland Jefferson. regarding the
discontinuance of Trial Justice Court in Ettrick. Upon consideration whereof.
and on motion of P. W.Covington. the letter is received and filed.
A letter from Mr. James H. Brockwell, Secretary of the Ettrick Volunteer Fire
Department was read, asking permission to appoint additional firemen to the
volunteer 1:1""8 department in Ettriok. Upon consideration whereof and on motion
of P. W.Covingt on. it is resolved that the Executive Secretary be and he hereby
is instructed to inform the Ettrick Volunteer Fire Department that they may appoin
two additional firemen, which Would bring the total up to tWimy members.

A letter was read by theExecutive Secretary from theRichmond-Petersburg-Hopewell
Defense Council. regarding the return of that portion of funds contributed by
cIDmmunities to the Regional Defense Council. Upon consideration whereof and on
motion of T.D.\latkins, it is resolved the.t the Executive Secretary be and he
hereby is instruoted to request the Regional Defense Council to return to the
County of Chesterfield the unused portion on the basis of the contribution rather
than subsoription.
The Exocuti ve Secretary read before the Board a letter from the helfare Committee
of the Bermuda Ruritan Club requesting the Board to furnish adequate vlackout
signals. Upon consideration whereof and on motion of W. A. Horner. the matter
is referred to the Director of Civiliool Defense and Defense Council of this County.

Again the matter of the County purchasing fire apparatus was brought to the
attention of the Board by the Executive Secretary and as previously instructed I
the Executive Secretary submitted figures concerningthe approximate oost of light
fire-fighting equipment. Upon consideration whereof and on motion of J.G.Hening,1
it is resolved that the Chairman appoint a Committee, whioh Committee will report !
back to this Boar(~ of their findings on fire-figh. t apparatus. at a later meeting. Ii'
\ihereupon, the Chairman appointed-Mr. li.A. Horner, Mr. H. T. Goyne and Mr.P. W. ,
Covington as this Committee. I

This day there appeared before the Board Mr.P.W.Snead, Resident Engineer, Virginia I
Department of HiGhways, discussing road work in the Secondary System. Upon i
consideration whereof and on motion of T. D. \iatUns, it is resolved that the i
Executive Secretary be and he hereby is instructed to sign a statement to the I
effect that ~~.Snead did appear before the Board at this time, which is in keeping
with the policy of the Virginia. Department of Highways. i

This day, Mr. P.W.Snead. Resident Engineer. requested the Board that the location
of Rt. 653, at Falling Creek be changed in order to construct a new bridge and
eliminate the present hazard. Upon oonsideration whereof and on motion of J.
G. Hening, it is resolved that the Boerd approve such relocation of Rt. 653, at
~'alling Creek, as the Department of Highways deem neoessary. And be it further
resolved that the Executive Seoretary be and he hreby is instructed to obtain
the right of way at the County's expense for such change in Rt. 653.
This day the matter of an alternate road to replace Routes #1602 and 641. closed
by the government at Drewry's Bluff. was considered and a report was received
from the" Committee which ht, d been previously appointed to locate a desirable
route for this road, and the following report was made:
That the best route appeared to be along a line between the properties of Mr.
Robt. Jefferies and Mr. J. Scott Parrish; and upon consideration whereof and on
motion of W.'.iI.. Horner, it is resolved that the Exefutive Secretary be and he
hereby ie directed to request the State Highway Department to make a survey and
an estimated cOst of building and hard-surfacing a roed along the following
route: , beginning at the intersection of Routes #641 and #640 and running in a
northwesterly direction along the line on a lot owned by Mi'.E.B.Swineford, for a
distance of approximately 400 feet. thence along in a northerly direction across
the property of Swineford, Steinbaok and Jefferies to a point on the old private
on the Swineford property where the private road makes an angle, thence in a
northerly direct.ionalong that road to a. .point where the boundard line bwtween
the property of ~r.J.Scott Parrish and ~r.Robt. Jefferies intersects that road,
thence in a northeasterly direction along the property line to a junction of the
property line and the farm road between. thence along a farm road in a northerly
direction to Route 638. The County to bear the cost of this survey. All
descriptions to coinoide with the pre~iminary survey as exhibited by the Resident
Engineer.
