The Executive secretary reported that Mr. D. P. Bass, living near Ettrick, had '[
mBde application to connect to the water line at a cost of $4.75 according to
an agreement which had been made for users of water outside the Ettrick District, I
and that he had been refused the connection. and requested the Board to make some
disposition of the matter. Upon consideration whereof and on motion of H. T.I
Goyne. the matter is turned over to Mr.P.ii.Govington. Supervisor, and the Executivf
Secretary. Ii .H. Caldwell, with authori1i:r:rto make such adjustments as are necessarf'

1'..r. P. vi.Snead. Resident Engineer, Virginia Department of Hirhways. appeared I
before the Board regarding a bridge which bad been destroyed on March 19. 1942 by
fire. over the Atlantic Coast Line HR. on !tt. 624, and suggested that the Atlanticl
Coast Line RE. Cbmpany be requested to rebuild the bridge as soon as possible. I
Upon consideration wherebt. and on motion of p. W. Covington, it is resolved that.
the Executive Secretary be and he hereby is instructed to request the Atlantic t
Coast Line HR. Company to rebuild the bridge over its tracks on Rt. 624 as soon as
possible and to mQke such improvements to the approaches to such bridge as practic 1
during the period of re-building.
The matter of the request of Mr.A.T.Harvey for improvement of a road between Rt. 5~7
and Rt. 645 was brought before the Board. Upon. consideration whereof. and on I
motion of J. G. Hening. it is resolved that the Executive Secretary be and he
hereby is instructed to request the State Highway Department tomaohine and improve I
this roed for a distance of approximately .3 of a mile, east from Rt. 637; same ,
to be charged to the 3ct. road levy. !

The Execu~ve Secretary read to the Board a letter from. the Richmond-Petersbl:lrg- !
Hope~Bll Regional Defense Council, returning the sum of $278.76, being the county'1
unused share of the donetion made to the Regional Defense Counoil for defense
work, and requested that this amount be reappropri~ted for Local Civilian Defense
work in Chesterfield County. Upon consideration vlhereof, and on motion of
J. G. Hening, the sum ~f $278.76 is hereby appropriated for use by the Local I
Defense Board in Chesterfield County. i
The Executive Secretary read before the Board a letter from Lindsey and Sheppard I
recarcdng the possibility of the County t'urnishiIl€ water in Sherbourne Heirhts
and the surrounding territory at Stop 21. Upon consideration whereof and on !
motion of T. D. iJatldns. tp:e .l'l8.tter is referred to the\later Committee. Upon
further consideration and on motiol1 of.i. A. Horner, the Executive Secretary be
and he hereby is instt'1xcted to reply to the letter from Lindsey and Sheppard, Inc.
statinf that the County is not in a position at present to furnish water to this
dubdivision nor coold it guarantee when this could be dca8 in the future. unless
assistance can be given to the County by the Federal covernmen.t.

budf,etarj' period we will need several r.:cord books for the Clerk's Office. and
that he had secured prices on same in the amount of ~62l.45. Upon consideration
whereof. and on motion of II.A.Horner. it is resolved that the Executive Secretary
be and he hereby is authorized to purchase these books at any tbne, provided
~he payment of same did not have ~o be made until the budget for the next year goe~
