I \._~ 96HP0134 Perdue House Bermuda Magisterial District . 12210 Percival Street REQUEST: Historic Landmark Designation PROPOSED LAND USE: Personal residence RECOMMENDA TION Recommend approval of landmark designation for Perdue House based on the following fmdings: 1.. This is a distinguished building of high architectural quality and historic interest; and 2.. This designation will cause no significant adverse effect on the future development of the County ~ The designated property shall be as follows: The Perdue House structure located~on Tax Map 115-11(2) Chester, Block 12, Lot 396 and 397 (Sheet 32). BACKGROUND The Perdue House was built in 1902 or 1903 by Edgar N~ Perdue. The L-shaped.frame structure remains largely unaltered~ A veranda with pierced scrollsaw brackets runs across the front, and Gothic brackets embellish the gable roofs return-cornice eaves. The house remained in the Perdue family until the recent death of Hap Perdue.. The house is one of the oldest in the Chester Village Area~ The landscaping includes extremely large trees and has local notoriety as the "Perdue n house ~ ,. ./ { , -'-~ . .,.~ CASE HISTORY Joint Planning Commission and Preservation Committee Meeting (11/20/95) There was no opposition present.. On motion of Mr.. Daniels, seconded by Mr~ Morris, the Preservation Committee resolved to recommend approval of landmark designation for Case 96HP0134, Perdue House, based on the following findings: 1. This is a distinguished building of high architectural quality and historic interest; and 2~ This designation will cause no significant adverse effect on the future development of the County ~ AYES: Ms.. Howe and Messrs.. Daniels, Cogbill, Morris, Walker and Morris~ ABSENT: Mr.. Woolfolk. On motion of Mr ~ Cunningham, seconded by Mr.. Easter, the Planning Commission resolved to recommend approval of landmark designation for Case 96HP0134, Perdue House, based on the following findings: 1. This is a distinguished building of high architectural quality and historic interest; and . 2.. This designation will cause no significant adverse effect on the future development of the County..
