Burnett Gentlemen: On January 8 we were somewhat shocked and bewildered when the Board seemed to favor the granting of a use permit to Hamilton Brothers to operate a dry wall business at Len Hamilton's home in our residential community on Lake Hill Road. We were dismayed because the Board showed considerable leniency to Mr. Hamilton's cause throughout the proceedings even though most of the neighbors were there in opposition and presented a certified petition bearing approximately fifty (50) signatures. We like Chesterfield County, and we have always supported its governing body, so you can imagine our disappointment when the wishes of the overwhelming majority seemed not to be considered. In all fairness to the Board, we feel that you must not be fully aware of the situation and why we are so greatly concerned. The facts are simply that we wish to stop business on Lake Hill Road before it be- comes a business strip. Once a use permit is granted, the community is no longer strictly residential. Not only are we opposing Mr. Hamilton but also Mr. Rice, Mr. Eatman, Mr. Brewster and/or any others. We hope to set a precedent with Mr. Hamilton, because as you see from our pet- ition three of the persons listed above applied for use permits at the same time to operate' businesses at their homes on Lake Hill Road. Mr. Eatman withdrew his request after we as neighbors talked to him, and Mr. Rice withdrew "for the time being" at the hearing. This tactic used by Mr. Rice was, of course, advised by counsel who hoped to get one use permit established in the neighborhood before asking for the others. If Mr. Hamilton's permit is granted, how about the others? ?/ . . The Board of Supervisors Page 2 January 21, 1969 ~~. Hamilton is operating as Hamilton Brothers, but his brother has moved to Dinwiddie County. The materials for operating their dry wall busi- ness were stored at his brother's home. Apparently these materials have now been moved to Lake Hill Road because one of our neighbors counted twenty- one cases (of something) being taken from a truck and put into Mr. Hamil- ton's garage last week. To operate a dry wall business, supplies must be stored somewhere. It is unfortunate that we have neighbors capable of operating a business in their homes. We know that business and residence cannot mix without the prestige and stability of the neighborhood suffering as a result. We are very proud of our sub-division here, especially we older neighbors ,'iho strive to maintain a high conununity standard. We work to keep our property looking its best because we really care, and we have a keen interest in our conununity. Lake Hill Road is a short dead-end road but one much traveled by the general public which comes to view the beauty of the lake and the surroundings. He like Chesterfield County, and we have always supported its governing body, so you can imagine our disappointment when the wishes of the overwhelming majority . seemed not to be considered. 'In all fairness to the Board~ we feel that you must not be fully alvare of the situation and why \Ve are so greatly concerned. The facts are simply that we wish to stop business on Lake Hill Road before it be- comes a business strip. Once a use permit is granted, the co~~unity is no longer strictly residential. Not only are \Ve opposing r~. Hamilton but, also Mr. Rice, Mr.,Eatman, Mr. Brewster and/or any others.
