VIRGINIA: At an adjourned meeting <br />of the Board of Supervisors of <br />Chesterfield County, held at the <br />Courthouse on July 26, 1976, at <br />7:30 p.m. <br /> <br />Present: <br /> <br />Mr. E. Merlin O'Neill, Chairman <br />Mrs. Joan Girone, Vice-Chairman <br />Mr. J. Ruffin Apperson <br />Mr. C. L. Bookman <br />Mr. Leo Myers <br /> <br />Mr. M. W. Burnett, County Administrator <br /> <br />The Chairman calls the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. to discuss with the Fire <br />Standard Board of the Fire Department the policies by which the various Fire <br />Departments of the County should operate later. Ail companies are represented <br />and introduced. <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Apperson, seconded by Mr. Bookman, it is resolved that this <br />Board reaffirms the establishment of the Fire Standards Board and its duties <br />as outlined on November 27, 1974. <br /> <br />Ayes: Mr. O'Neill; Mrs. Girone, Mr. Apperson, Mr. Bookman and Mr. Myers. <br /> <br />Chief Van Bowen discusses the need for an Air Unit which has been reduced <br />in cost to $64,029.75. After considerable discussion on the need for such <br />a vehicle, it is on motion of Mr. Bookman, seconded by Mr. Apperson, resolved <br />that'~ the Company purchase an Air Unit at a cost of $64,029.75 to be financed <br />from Revenue Sharing Funds. <br /> <br />Ayes: Mr. O'Neill, Mrs. Girone, Mr. Apperson, Mr. Bookman and Mr. Myers. <br /> <br />Chief Van Bowen and others discuss the needs for repairing and altering <br />the various Fire Departments of the County, at a cost of approximately $77,000 <br />and states further that if the Board could finance $33,000 of that amount it <br />could take care of immediate needs and that the Fire Standard Board would see <br />to the proper distribution of this amount. After some discussion of this <br />matter, it is on motion of Mr. Bookman, seconded by Mr. Apperson, resolved that <br />the sum of $33,000 be appropriated from ~e Revenue Sharing Fund to the Fire <br />Department Construction Fund to finance immediate improvements. <br /> <br />Ayes: Mr. O'Neill, Mrs. Girone, Mr. Apperson, Mr. Bookman and Mr. Myers. <br /> <br />The district chiefs are in need of $500 which is an annual fee for financing <br />the chiefs meetings, postage, minutes, etc. <br /> <br />Upon consideration whereof, it is on motion of Mr. Apperson, seconded by Mr. <br />Bookman, resolved that the sum of $500 be appropriated from the Unappropriated <br />Surplus to the Fire Department Budget to finance this cost. <br /> <br />Ayes: Mr. O'Neill, Mrs. Girone, Mr. Apperson, Mr. Bookman and Mr. Myers. <br /> <br />Chief Cunningham coming from Enon Fire Department discusses the need for <br />condemnation on .33 of an acre. It is generally agreed that this matter be <br />first given to the Right-of-Way Department to make a final effort to acquire <br />this property prior to condemnation. <br /> <br />On motion of Mrs. Girone, seconded by Mr. Bookman, it is resolved that this <br />Board accept title and maintain cost of a new unit for salvage and rescue <br />operation purchased by the Midlothian Fire Board at an approximate cost of <br />$10,000. <br /> <br />Ayes: Mr. O'Neill, Mrs. Girone, Mr. Apperson and Mr. Bookman. <br /> <br />It is resolved that this Board authorizes the purchase of a jeep from Haynes <br />Motor Company at a price of $7,405.05 at a delivery of 45 days. <br /> <br />Ayes: Mr. O'Neill, Mrs. Girone, Mr. Apperson and Mr. Bookman. <br /> <br />It is generally agreed that the request of the Bon Air Fire Department be <br />deferred for the purchase by said department of a car for the transportation <br />of the Chief of the Fire Department to fires. It is cited that such a vehicle <br />was necessary to get through traffic in the built up area. <br /> <br />The problem of shooting fireworks in the County is to be studied by the Fire <br />Department who will make a recommendation at a later date. <br /> <br />The problem of getting abandoned structures razed is discussed and it is <br />generally agreed that the Building Inspector be requested to give immediate <br />action on certain structures. <br /> <br /> <br />
