VIRGINIA: At an adjourned meeting of the Board <br />of Supervisors of Chesterfield County, held <br />at the Court House on August 25. 1959, at <br />7:30 p.m. <br /> <br />Present: <br /> <br />Mr. Irvin G. Homer, Chairman <br />Mr. H.T. Goyne <br />Mt. Stanley R.Hague, Jr. <br />Mr .R.J .Brit ton <br />Mr .H.K.Hagerman <br /> <br />Absent: <br /> <br /> Mr. Marsh allF. Driskill <br /> <br />This day Mr.C,R.Henshaw comes before the Board with a request to allow the <br />construction of a dwelling on a private road, and it was generally agreed that <br />he comply with the ordinance of the County before a building permit is issued. <br /> <br />This day Mr. Painter comes before the Board presenting the following standard <br />water contracts: <br /> <br />The Menokin Corporation - Stratford Road <br />Southam Subdivision <br />Huguenot Farms <br /> <br />$1540,00 <br /> 4260.00 <br /> 7755.00 <br /> <br />And presented further a request from Mt.James Sloan for the approval of a water <br />contract for his subdivision on Rt. 147. Upon consideration whereof, and <br />on motion of Er.Britton, seconded by Mr. Goyne, it is resolved that the afore- <br />mentioned contracts be and they hereby are approved, and the Chairman and ~lerk <br />of this Board are authorized to sign said contracts. <br />And be it further resolved, that the contract with Mr. Sloan be approved, provided <br />that he put up the necessary money for the installation of an 8" line on a short <br />sour road to the east of his subdivision. <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Britton, seconded by Mr. Hagerman, it is resolved that the general <br />contract with Mr.J.M.Wilkinson for installing a water line in the Lon~wood <br />Subdivision, calling for the standard connection charge to be $300.00, and allowing <br />the developer a rebate of $200.00 per connection, be, and ~.t hereby is approved, <br />subject to the approval of the Commonwealth's Attorney. <br />And the Chairman and Clerk of theBoard are authorized to sign said contract. <br /> <br />This day the mtter of changing certain road names in the area of Bon Air come s <br />before the Board and it was cited that due to the imminent delivery of house-to- <br />hou~se mail that certain street names would have to bechanged to eliminate <br />certain confusion with duplicate street names in the City of Richmond and Henrico <br />County. And it was generally agreed that the County Engineer and the Executive <br />Secretar~ seek a meeting with the County of Henrico and the City of Richmond <br />as soon as possible to effect a solution to this problem. <br /> <br />On motion of Mr . Ha german , seconded by Mr. Britton, it is resolved that the <br />Purchasing Agent be and he hereby is requested to get bids on five {5) new <br />vehicles for the Engineering Department and the ~fater Department as per their <br />soecifications, and said bids to be 1959 models if possible. <br /> <br />This day again the County Engineer brought to the attention of the Board of <br />Supervisors that Mr . Harold Anderson, an employee of the Water Department is <br />being drafted for military service and that his leaving the County service <br />at this time would cause an exceptional hardship. Upon consideration whereof, <br />and on motion of Mr.Goyne, seconded by Mr.Britton, it is resolved that this <br />Board request the Draft Board of the County to grant a six-months deferment to <br />Mr. Harold Anderson so that he may adequately train reolacement personnel and <br />continue to help the hrater Department in these months of great expansion'and <br />problems. The Board cites the fact that Er. Anderson has worked in this De- <br />partment several years and is uniquely experienced in its operation. <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Goyne, seconded by Mr. Hague, it is resolved that the Treasurer <br />of the County be and he hereby is Dequested to transfer $30,000.00 from the <br />Meter Installation Fund of the Water Department to theCounty 'Cons tr~ction Fund <br />in the Water Department. <br /> <br />On motion of Er. Hagerman, seconded by Mr.Britton, it is resolved that the <br />contract for the installation of seats in the new stadium be awarded to the <br />J.H.Pence Company for ohe amount of $1.45 per seat. <br /> <br />This day the ExecutiveSecretary informed the Board that the City Managers of <br />the City of Hopewell and the City of Petersburg had tentatively agreed to <br />allow the County of Chesterfield ~o house its prisoners in ~he City jail pending <br />approval by the City Councils. <br />Upon consideration whereof and on motion of ~'~.Hague, seconded by Mr. Britton, <br />it is resolved that this Board request the Judge of the Circuit Court to <br />desiEnate the jails of the City of Hopewell and City of Petersburg as suitable <br />locations for the incarceration of the County's prisoners, pending the signinE <br />of the necessary agreements between the Municipal£~ies. <br /> <br /> <br />
