VI~GINIA: At an adjourned meeting of the <br />Board of Supervisors of Chesterfield County.~ <br />held at the Courthouse on January 29,1959, <br />at 7:30 p.m. <br /> <br />Present: <br /> <br />Mr. IrvinG.Homer, Chairman <br />Mr. R.J.Britton <br />Mr. Stanley R.Hague, Jr. <br />Mr. H. Hagerman <br />Mr. Marshall F.Driskill <br /> <br />Ab se nt: <br /> <br /> Mr. H.T.Goyne <br /> <br />This day the Executive Secretary re~d a report from the Director of the Welfare <br />and Institutions reporting on the Police lock,up of Chesterfield County, <br />which report is filed with the Board's papers. <br /> <br />On motion of M~.Driskill, seconded by Mr. Britton, it is resolved that the <br />Highway Dep~rtment be requested to install a culvert at the intersection of <br />Polk and McRae Streets in Bon Air, and charge same to the 3¢ Road Fund of the <br />County. <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Driskill, seconded by ~%r. Britton, it is resolved that this <br />Board request the H~ghway Department to improve the remaining .8 if a mile <br />on t}~e Isaac '~alton Road by installing not less than seven turn-outs at a cost <br />not to exceed$700.OO, and charging same to the3¢ }toad Fund. <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Hagn~e, seconded by ~r. Britton, it is resolved that the Executiw <br />Secretary be and he hereby i~'~ authorized to pav E.Tucker Carlton, Architect,the <br />amount of $875~.28, the same bein~ the remaining amount due on the architect's <br />fees on the new office building, and the Mott]ey Construction Company $37,565.6 <br />the same being the remaining amount due to the general contractor on the <br />construction of the new ~ffice building. <br /> <br />On motion of Nr. Ha~ue, seconded by Mr. Driskill, it is resolved that this Board <br />approve the request of Mr.J.T.Rose, County Assessor, for two surplus police <br />cars to be used by the Assessor's Office. <br /> <br />On motion of Mr.Britton, seconded by Mr.Driskill, it is resolved that the <br />following resolution be adopted: <br /> <br />That the Board of Supervi~rs of Chesterfield Countv doth urge the <br />Members of the General Assembly of Virginia, now in soecial session, <br />to enact such laws as will hold the line a~ainst integration of the <br />races in the public schools of this Cormnonwealth. <br /> <br />Further, that this Board reaffirm its previous stand against the <br />usurpation of the State's sovereignty by the Supreme Court of <br />the United States and pledges to the Governor, the Honorable J. <br />Lindsay Almond, and to the Honorable A.J.Harrison,Jr., Attorne~ <br />General of Virginia, its continuing support in this fight to <br />preserve constitutional government. <br /> <br />FURTHER, if it is necessary ia order to preserve segregation in the <br />public schools of this ~Commonwealth, that ~1 public schools in <br />this State be declared in vacation, or placed under the supervision <br />and control of the General Assembly until a plan can be devied to <br />preven~ integration of the races in our public schools. <br /> <br />)n motion of Mr. Driskill, seconded by Mr. Britton, it is resolved that the <br />Executive Secretary be and he hereby is requested to write a letter to the <br />Personnel of the Welfare Department thankin~ them for the extra efforts in <br />the Christmas ba.%ket program and the cooperation given to the other agencies <br />of the County. <br /> <br />This day the County Road Engineer in accordancewith directions from this Board <br />made report in writing upon his examination of Tee Circle in Fairway Acres, Man- <br />chester Magisterial District, which report shows that in the opinion of the <br />County Road Engineer it is expedient that said road be established as a public <br />~oad. Upon consideration~whereof, and on motion of Mr. Britton, it is resolved <br />that Tee Circle in Fairway ~cres, Manchester District, be and the smne is hereby <br />established as a public road. <br />And be it further resolved, that the V~rginia Department of Highways be and it <br />hereby is requested to take into the State Secondarv System, Tee Circle in <br />Fairway Acres, from a point on Rt. 1821, .1 of a mile north of Rt.6OS, .O~ of <br />a mile westwardly to a turn-around. This road serves 2 houses. <br />And be it further resolved that the Board of Supervisors of Chesterfield County <br />guarantees a right of way of not less than 50 fe~t to the Virginia Department <br />of Highways for tbi~ road. Dedication of said right of way recorded in Plat <br />Book 8, page 203, Chesterfield Court House, Virginia. <br /> <br />This day the County Road Engineer in accordance with directions from this Board <br />made report in writin~ upon his examination of Darlington Road and Garthdale <br />Road in the Rock Spring Farms Subdivision, Dale Magisterial District, which <br />report shows that in the opinion of the County koad Engineer it is expedient <br />that said roads be established as public roads.
